LOL Democrats - So LOL we needed a 2nd thread

I haven’t seen an LA Times in person since 2010. It was still substantial then. The paper I’m talking about was about the thickness of a 90s daily LA Times (marksman will likely remember this) and it had an always great sports section. When I was in Texas in 2022, I was shown the current paper and it was maybe 12 pages all in one with very large print.

Immediately after the election I remember being shocked at the number of Latinos who voted Trump and was so pissed that I said at the time I’m not gonna feel sorry for any of them when they get fucked. Of course I had no idea it was going to be this bad

One thing no one talks about is if they’re treating them this way in open public on camera, what worse things are they doing when they get them out of sight into the van and behind closed doors? Still don’t feel bad for those who voted Trump. Problem is, it’s a travesty for those who didn’t

The problem with your tu quoque is the global rightward shift really is mostly Americas fault. That was sort of the point of Carneys speech.

Eh, accelerated by America, maybe. But not caused. Hungary and India and Egypt and Brexit all happened pre Trump. It’s the phones.

Not Trump. Way before Trump.

It was America’s history of Cold War support for authoritarian and right-wing regimes, undermining national sovereignty and democratic legitimacy in other countries, destabilizing military interventions and power vacuums and weakening of global liberal democratic norms . Not to mentions it’s central role in creating the social media disinformation landscape aka the phones.

“The global rightward shift is America’s fault”

I must admit, I had a good chuckle at this one. Never change Clovis.

It’s not debatable. It’s historical fact.

Ok, well then, I certainly won’t debate you on it

Good because there is no version of the historical narrative where America is the good guys. That was the entire point of Carney’s speech this week everyone loved. The rest of us are guilty because we pretended it was a good guy when it helped our pocketbooks.

Lol that is quite the goalpost shift. But yes whatever you think is correct

USA, the “Western Country” with by far the largest population and military and economy was certainly more at fault for The West generally supporting right dictatorships in the developing world and opposing the USSR and China in the cold war than any other individual country.

Like, USA definitely dominated Central America during the 20th Century and all those corporations that took all the land and dictators and death squads, but Canada punched above its weight. Canadian mining companies in particular have wrought plenty of havoc.

Sure, I think we all agree on this.

Agreed.

Catholicsim’s a hell of a drug IMO. I guarantee the vast majority of that 34% is there for social conservative wedge issues like LGBTQ and abortion.

He doesn’t, because he’s dead.

Crazy to think he hasn’t even been dead for 5 years yet with how completely forgotten and irrelevant he is.

And the only time anyone ever thinks about him at all is to think “Gee, I forgot about that guy. Boy was he a huge asshole!”

I mean he didn’t become irrelevant; the entire GOP establishment chomped on his flavor. He’s one of the most influential politicos of modern politics.
