Leftist and Scottish Memes for Seizing the Means

Bio Done is one of the all time great stoner comedies. Pauly Shore may not have had staying power but that movie was magnificent.

Why Ronald Reagan? Sanders makes much more sense.

It’s not credible that Reagan would say anything like this. That’s some lazy ass trolling.

What is the point? Genuinely asking. Like, I absolutely don’t see the point of doing it with Sanders, but I’d have thought the point with Reagan would be to induce susceptibility by priming them to think it’s something Reagan said and then either rug-pull (for yuks) or just let it simmer, for, well not sure, really. But whatever it is, it seems like it would be better served by choosing more superficially plausible quotes:

You also have to change boomers to Sanders supporters/“lefties”.

Well I don’t get that at all.

I assume the whole point is to be a troll. If you want to troll someone with Ho Chi Minh quotes like the one above then Sanders supporters are a better target. If you want to troll boomers/Reagan supporters instead use quotes that could have credibly come from him like you did in your post above.

I, for one, got it without the need for convoluted deconstruction.

I’d be willing to put money on Reagan never having uttered the phrase “ruling class” in his entire life.

The idea of a bunch of boomer Reagan supporters nodding along to Ho Chi Minh quotes is hilarious. Boomers, even in spaces like academia, love to think of themselves as blue-collar, working people who are getting screwed over by other wealthy elites.

Yea, there’s probably more plausible quotes, but there’s no fun in getting them to agree with the plausible ones.

The whole point is that idiot boomers will nod in agreement with something that a. isn’t plausible and b. probably goes against what they think they believe. Maybe it’ll get one or two to be more willing to accept those ideas as good going forward.

It seems clear to me. In addition to the above, it’s also to simply get Reagan hero-worshippers to non-critically auto-like/share anything they think he says while a select few of us giggle. Now, to be fair, 98% of all people will non-critically auto-like anything that they think they are supposed to; this one just happens to target dumb Boomer Reagan cultists, so I approve.

Unstuck 25 years ago would be having a multi-day debate about why Shepard Fairey wrote OBEY beneath the image of a man who was by all accounts a gentle and kindhearted person.
