People are getting more intolerant of a lot of stuff: from protected classes to political views to social situations. The culture keeps telling people to “Get exactly what you want”, as exhorted in a hundred different ads.
Part of being a decent person is learning tolerance. I don’t see much partisan difference other than the things that people are intolerant of.
The reason conservatives are worse because the things they are intolerant of are worse. But everyone is getting angry over minor inconvenience or slight.

I don’t know but suspect Giles sees the wind changing direction in Arizona and possibly wants to run for higher office. To be fair though, I can’t rule out he actually has some integrity. I’m not sure this type of move actually does that. It moves you into a grey zone where you’re kind of unacceptable to both parties as a candidate for higher office.
It sounds like your circle is mostly Ismailis. While they are Muslim, they tend to strike me as far mor liberal than the median Muslim. If so, your sample is skewed.
