tbh I think this is more of a boomer bomb shelter.
I think we had those up until about 3rd grade. IIRC, a GE engine parts plant was the closest target to the school, and we were outside it’s effects radius, so we didn’t get drilled too hard.
I’m at the older end of Gen X and don’t remember any nuclear war drills. Maybe because we had tornado drills and it’s the exact same procedure.
I do remember the nuclear symbol over the entrance to the school basement. Even as a kid that always weirded me out for some reason.
