Excel is one of the few MS products that works reasonably well, why are we mad at Excel now instead of Word?

I worked in the mail room at Wausau insurance where only a few people had computers on their desks. Email was still a huge novelty. We had one computer in the mail room that was mainly used for printing labels.
The answer is lots and lots of memos circulating around. You’d type something up, put it in a yellow envelope, and drop it in your out basket. I’d pick it up and deliver it to whomever you wrote on the yellow envelope. Everyone’s desk was loaded with paper. Lots of filing things. Lots of time at the copy machine.
Waiting for 5 pm to come around with nothing to do and no computer to play on was mental torture.

Because excel keeps us chained to desks instead of getting drunk and slaying dragons or something, I’m not sure what was done before it. Word is just a completely unhinged program barely more capable than notepad.

Scumbag Steve hat on Word icon kills me.
My favorite is when you hit delete at the end of one bullet point and the entire list changes to 56-point Times New Roman for some reason.
My other favorite, but they all do this, is when I paste one word from an email and it inserts it as the same font, but 10.5 pt instead of 11. And then everything I type after that stays at 10.5. Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to do. Thank you.

I have the need to insert symbols once in a while. Whenever I do, the font changes for the rest of the document. I used to get pissed and immediately change the font back, but now I just keep going and just select all and change the font to what I want when I’m done with the document.
ChatGPT is excellent at all these little word idiosyncrasies btw
Is able to parse supe vague questions, and seems to have very broad and up to date coverage of functionality.
