Most American sports were invented in or by Canadians. Hockey, basketball, baseball.
Even american football has its roots in Canada with Mcgill university making most of the initial adjustments from rugby into modern football.

Consider:
There will always be a soft spot for simple foods that take you back, even when you have a taste for haute cuisine. Not everyone will have the same soft spots or the same nostalgia, but the appeal of a familiar taste of something you used to love is undeniable.
For two, hot dogs are easier too cook well than brats. Sometimes you just want to throw some things on the grill over the fire rather than messing around with a mix of indirect and direct heat that it takes to cook a brat well.
