Even if they get the signatures for the petition and then the vote to release the files succeeds, DOJ can, and mostly likely would, say FU no. It’s still worth trying because fuck them too.
This is a good development. Make it clear that Republican lawmakers have to decide between supporting an unpopular dying fascist clown or being his enemy. Every one of these GOP guys is going to try to pretend they were against Trumpism all along when he eventually cashes out.
They continue to support Trump because they fear MAGA, if for no other reason. Would they switch if they believed continuing to support Trump also carried a similar risk? Maybe, though they’d probably just find a reason to retire.
