Its honestly hilarious just how full width and verdana font makes things so much better.
Also get the chrome extension. And I’m so lazy I wrote a tampermonkey script to auto change every thread to “top comments” and also click the “show images” button because fuck you.
I use Old Reddit on browser very regularly. No complaints.
I also use TikTok. Once it starts to learn about you it’s super, super, good at serving you videos you’ll want to watch. Extremely addictive. But it can actually also be useful - I’ve been watching videos on Bogota and Cartagena in advance of our trip in June and have picked up some great tips and info. I’ve also “discovered” several musicians and a few comedians I now regularly follow.
This is not intended to be an endorsement of TikTok, I’ve read about how it is harmful to teens. But I don’t think it’s doing me any harm, and I hope the nefarious Chinese intelligence agencies are making good use of my fondness for cute animal videos.
Reddit is good for when you have really weird niche interests like sumo wrestling or whatever. No matter what, there’s always an active subreddit for every weird thing.
YouTube just started serving me up a string of right-leaning content. Ben Shapiro and CPAC. Wtf. I watch non-duality videos, poker and random clips, in that order.
Happens to me all the time. I use YouTube daily for chess content, some cooking content, some hockey content, and a little bit of personal finance stuff. These things make up 100% of my feed most of the time, but everyone once in a while a huge surge of conservative propaganda comes flooding in.
I think that conservative bullshit has so much traction with so many people, that the optimal strategy for YouTube algorithms is to just keep recommending it again and again.
And it just goes on and on and on. Are these even real companies? Are they just some AI-generated generic shirt printing drop-shipping digital nomad crap?
It feels like throwing red meat into a pool of starving piranhas.
