Copycat Zuck?
a) thought apple had a HUGE problem with companies trying to charge more against apple users. didn’t they go to war with fortnite over that. and weren’t they threatening to go to war with twitter, or did they recently soften their stance?
b) the other thing i read that makes this different then elno’s is that your username must match your government ID.
Apple getting a lot of pressure in EU and USA about their walled garden, so they have been stepping very gingerly around anything that comes off as being anti competitive when they can.
I don’t see how this isn’t inevitable for these tech giants . I think Elon just leaped in first because he didn’t give a fuck.
I honestly don’t see how it’s possible for the next generation of folks to watch “a how to replace a garbage disposal” or some unboxing video for free with where advertising is going.
At least on Chrome, FB has started a new fun thing. Let’s say you see a fun post, then scroll through a few more posts, then think of a witty reply to the fun post. Scroll back up, it’s gone. They’re now deleting posts at the top of the scoll.
Thanks guys, god forbid we adhere to that basic web paradigm that something you just saw should still be there when you scroll back up.
A team of 20 people all make $500k a year to come up with and implement that brilliant idea.
Ok maybe it’s a bug. It seems to not always happen. The site is doing some other weird stuff now. Notice the floating labels (Learn More, 9h) out of place off to the left - they scroll up and down with the page.
Edit: Did it again. Removed a ton of posts from the top of the scroll.
It does weird post skipping stuff for me as well when scrolling and it’s super annoying.
The programmers are all philosophers, the disappearance of the content is a commentary on the ephemeral nature of life.
I’ll frequently have tweets disappear from my feed while I’m looking at them.
I should reread some sociology of religion stuff and contemplate whether social media is serving as a replacement for some of the sociological functions of religion.
In a Durkheimian sense, social media if probably more like the opposite of religion.
Social medial is more like the apex of individualism, or maybe faux-individualism with elements of cultishness.
Religion makes sense of the world and prescriptively tells you what to think and do. Social media allows you to curate a world where what you think is reinforced.
If social media has influencers, that means there are people who are influenced.

The web gets more and more scammy every day.
Good rule of thumb. NEVER click on a sponsored google result
Yeah I do that too. But now I have to worry about the top one being a scam site.
These scams were predictably always coming to a theater near you. Crypto wasn’t unique, just a low-hanging fruit and sneak preview. Some friends of mine got a nice surprise a while back when a handful or so of irate people showed up at their house demanding an appliance they had all supposedly purchased on FB marketplace for $500. My friends had never used FB marketplace and had nothing for sale.
A lot of “digital nomads” are just doing bogus stuff like this where they insert themselves as a completely unnecessary middleman.
From what I gather FB Marketplace is scam heaven now. Took over for Craigslist. The number of different scams I have read originating there is mind blowing.
About two months ago, I got a new laptop and searched “Google Drive download” or something along those lines. The first link (on fucking Google!) was an ad from a Google imposter website that downloaded spyware called Drive.exe or some such. Couldn’t believe they let it through. This is a literal trillion $+ company.
