Is there anything Biden can do now to win over progressives?

You know I’m not happy with Biden, and we’re all frustrated, but spending all day firing shots at our only chance of stopping Trump is a dumb idea right now. If you can’t bring yourself to vote for him, I understand, but stop relentlessly trying to demoralize the opposition.

I’ll take relentless shitting on and then I’ll vote for him.

I think this is a perfectly fair approach.

I do wonder, however, if there is not some merit in the idea that all dems just play leftish “trumpkins” and pretend no matter what Biden does it is awesome until the election. Once he wins then dog pile on him as hard as possible to make him bend to a leftish agenda.

I really tried to do that in 2016 after the convention with Hillary, but can’t stomach doing it this time. At least Hillary was smart and there was something to sell. I don’t know if it’s just that the product this time has so little to sell or if I’ve just given up a bit more, but it is what it is. I’m not going to pretend this shit sandwich is anything but a shit sandwich.

If I weren’t so online I definitely wouldn’t vote for Biden. Not in a state that is nowhere near a swing state. I’d feel a little guilty about not voting for the SOB after having played Potusbowl here for so long.

I legitimately hate Joe Biden and think he is a terrible human being. Voting for him is the only reasonable choice under the circumstances, end of story.

In 2016 I had Ron Johnson to get me to the polls.

In 2020, I have no reason to show up. My vote cannot possibly affect any local races because I am the 4% around here and I couldn’t really care less if Trump or Biden wins POTUS. If Trump wins, RBG will be suited up and sent to work Weekend at Bernie’s style if need be until a dem inevitably wins in 2024, so that’s not even a big draw.

Barking up the wrong tree. If Biden does win, I think it would be entertaining to watch you guys defend him for the next 4 years with the whataboutisms you love to hate on right wingers for.

You know what I meant.

This is an impressively dumb take.

Tell you what, if Biden names Liz Warren as his VP, I’ll vote Trump. Deal?

Sounds like a good enough reason to vote for him!

Wait until after the election.

So, in your mind, Trump = Biden?

Try to look at it from a non-rapist POV.

Is Trump, iyo, a competent administrator?

Maybe.

The strongest feeling I have toward either of them is the one I have about both of them, which is that neither are playing with a full deck.

As far as their administrations go, I think Trump is going to be better for the economy and thus me personally, but not so much so that I’d particularly care of the dems got a shot under a Biden administration.

I’d have had felt more strongly toward a Trump vote if someone like Bernie or Warren won, but even then, mostly just due to fear of the unknown. I’m just mostly ambivalent this year. WAAF regardless.

The only way Dems get better is if the progressive side of the US population starts doing more than just vote in the presidential primary. You need a lot more people like AOC challenging current eDems and doing so at all levels of government. And they need a better candidate for president than Bernie Sanders. The establishment helped Clinton and Biden but that doesn’t change the fact Sanders couldn’t convince enough voters to vote for him against the two absolute worse eDem candidates. Sanders has good ideas but he is not a good politician.

And the end result is that Biden won’t move to the left because the rest of the party is secure in their positions and for them it doesn’t even really matter if Trump stays for another 4 years.

Biden has already moved way to the left of where he was two years ago.

What do you mean here by “the economy”?

Liz is on board now.
Looks like Ol’ Joe has won over all the major progressives.

In what ways?

I never liked Bernie as a presidential candidate because he’s an idealist with no history of successfully executing. I voted for him in the TX primary, but I wasn’t optimistic that he’d be able to get anything meaningful done once he was elected POTUS. I was hoping for a purge of the party where the President actively helped insurgents primary bought and paid for corporate Dems, which would hopefully clear the way for healing the country.

Of course then he lost the primary because every single established member of the Democratic Party was worried about the same thing and finally stopped fucking around and picked a candidate… the candidate that the African American voters liked the most. That’s 100% of why it’s Biden right now instead of literally any other candidate.

Biden really has already moved to the left a good bit. One nice thing you can say about Biden is that he verifiably doesn’t give a shit about policy and will go wherever the wind blows. He’s the anti Bernie in this way. He’s moved to the left a good bit already, and if he thinks its in his own interests he’ll do it some more. I’m not hopeful that he’s going to pick Warren, but if he did pick Warren I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

This is a very strange moment in American history. Books will be written about what happened in 2020.
