International Soccer: POCH

Watching the Italian guy playing tennis against Dj and heā€™s 6-6 after being a break down and takes the 1st point in the tiebreaker, seems promising for laterā€¦

Iā€™ve always taken an interest in the Spain national side as my mum is Spanish, and as jalfrezi said it was underachievement rather than being useless. I did always think that once theyā€™d managed to shake that off (beating Italy on pens in the qf of Euro 2008 was the pivotal moment), theyā€™d hit their stride. I thought the Spain team at the 2002 wc had the potential to go all the way (Morientes, Raul etc), but the S Korean travesty of justice put a stop to that (although Spain had not exactly played great against Rep Ireland in the previous round).

Zinedine Zidane was noted for saying that once Spain started winning they wouldnā€™t stop, and 3 major tourney wins in a row was a pretty incredible achievement.

I donā€™t think heā€™s an Eriksson type of manger.

Thatā€™s my hunch too. Saka could come on as a lively sub if they need a goal, and I think Southgate will probably show the natural caution that he prefers against strong teams.

Apparently an Italian ā€˜seriousā€™ newspaper is saying that the fix is in, England have already bought victory. Letā€™s hope so!

[Google translate of the heading, itā€™s paywalled and in Italianese]

Euro 2020, thinking badly makes it sinful but ā€¦ the English have already won

For Italy-England, letā€™s not have too many illusions: the generous penalty against Denmark is not a good sign. And UEFA is indebted to Johnson for the Super League

Thereā€™s nothing quite like getting excuses in early.
