International Soccer: POCH

DANS LE CAGE!

Love the Swiss for such irrational reasons. In 94 the USA played Switzerland in Michigan. My dad managed to score tickets to the game. I was 8, but I loved playing soccer. Didn’t even have cable back then, so the idea of professional soccer was foreign to me.

So we get these nosebleed seats in the Silverdome, and we’re sitting with a bunch of Swiss fans that all speak French. My dad speaks enough French that he got detained at the Canadian border once for swearing at the mounties, and he got along so well with the Swiss fans. By the end of the game, they had taught me several chants and I was cheering “Dans le cage” all the time because it was the only chant I could kind of say.

USA got a draw 1-1 on a free kick IIRC, which was super unexpected. My second earliest sports memory behind some weird ass guy at Tigers stadium drinking a beer at the trough urinal drinking a beer saying, “Easy in, easy out.” I prefer the WC memory.

It’s 4 of the 6 third place teams but yeah it makes the final round of group games less gripping than it should be.

yikes, he’s a close contact with a ton of people.

Yeah, Chilwell and Mount are now in self-isolating

Good game for the Netherlands, we finally had Malen starting and he did really well. Of course de Boer is going to come up with some braindead reason to keep Weghorst in.

DENMARK HAVE GONE MAD

Are large international soccer contracts essentially fully guaranteed like MLB / NBA contracts? I assume injuries for national teams don’t have any effect on the contract, so I assume it’s not like the NFL where they can be cut for injury, that true? Just wondering if Eriksen will be paid his full contract. Thanks in advance.

The national teams have to pay if the player gets injured on national duty, generally. Usually going to be covered by expensive insurance policies.

I think Eriksen’s situation could be complicated because it’s a preexisting condition. Probably bound for some kind of arbitration.

Yes, the main difference between American sports is that a player rips up their old contract and signs a new one every time they move teams.

Is it? I haven’t read anything about that.

Oh, maybe not? I just assumed since they put in the artificial device that it was related to some kind of heart defect.

Nah pretty much standard of care for anyone who has an unexplained ventricular fibrillation that causes cardiac arrest.

Basically the whole Scottish team that played on Friday should be isolating and BG was around the Scottish women’s national team as was shown on our live sports show here, he’s been around a lot of people from his family and friends to the players and our women’s national team.

The only thing I can say in their defence is that all contacts that I know have taken place have been outside the Scottish teams Hotel base and inside the stadiums on the tracks etc and once they enter closed spaces their in a bubble again :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It fucking stinks of high heaven as my nan would say.

And deserve any hate thrown at us… :pensive:

Depends on the country, Scottish club teams are responsible for the players when on national duty and they don’t get paid here unless its a major tourney like the Euros and any injuries will fall on the club and player to manage.

Think its the same for England too but unsure.

It is a complete nonsense.

Also Wembley open for 65k fans for the semis/final and still possible/likely that Boris will cave to the attendence of ~2.5k members of UEFAs “football family”.

15 minutes in an enclosed space is PHE advice for the Scotland team and Billy was caught chatting with the England players in the tunnel, so it seems absurd tbh.

There talk of the final being moved today to Hungary and the Italians have jumped in today to + others voicing there concern so BJ will cave to all.
