Registration for the ballot starts 45 days out, ballot locks 30 days out, campaign filing must fall in that window and campaigns that don’t exist can’t raise or spend money.

plenty of people would still be campaigning even with these restrictions. you can’t stop people from going to the Iowa state fair.

without primaries, though, your incentives for doing this sort of campaigning go waaaaaay down

You’re generally correct here, but the Constitution Act almost ended Canada. Given the US polarized environment now, a similar effort to replace the US Constitution would likely end the United States.

True but it would contain it to retail politics like that, which are way less problematic.

i’m grunching a bit but one thing you need is to make election day a national holiday and have 100x as many polling stations as you do today. it makes far more sense than early voting that still has huge lines.
