Mason was like ‘I need a vehicle for my General Lee fan fiction about what a smart, distinguished and sexy gentleman he really was but that’s not quite enough for a whole book. So…’
Did Mason type this paragraph? If not, it’s a brilliant impression.
ding ding ding
I think telling someone that their posts read like Mason should be prohibited. That’s going too far.
I’ve read enough Twoplustwo books to recognize Mason’s tortured prose.
The chapter on the Tet Offensive cites u-s-history.com.
There is an unnecessary comma in “January, 1968”. I have found at least one example in previous chapters where there was not a comma between the month and year.
The next chapter, “Peace in the Middle East”, is subtitled “Anwar Sadat and The Israeli Peace Treaty”, so there is inconsistent capitalization of “the” right next to each other.
This chapter recognizes biography.com “for help”, which makes it sound like the website was of active aid.
Another cut-and-paste comma ends a sentence.
“Sept 1978” No period, no spelling out the month as has been done elsewhere in the book.
The first instance of an illustration credit is to note that a picture of de Klerk and Mandela is copyrighted by the World Economic Forum.
The book goes 13 for 14 in correctly spelling “Mandela”.
Zeno and BriantheMick2 get credited for suggesting the topic of Kublai Khan and the Divine Wind.
This chapter includes both “Typhon” and “typhoon”.
The Cortes chapter mentions the Great Captain, but doesn’t bother including his real name, Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba.
Some blatant lack/misuse of apostrophes: “governors pardon”, “Velazquezs orders”, “Tabasco’s’ submission”
Who had “then” as a word that was likely to be misspelled?
The use of the word “hecatomb” seems obviously borrowed from an unattributed source.
Nuno de Guzman is referred to as the president of the Audience, a strange translation of the court known as the Real (Royal) Audencia.
“A mess of skirts” seems likely to be a literal translation of a Spanish idiom.
The subject matter, significantly greater length, more-detailed narrative, and sources section mark the Cortes chapter as the work of Mason’s collaborator.
I told you i’d bet my roll this wasn’t proofread. I noticed a lot of these things but it was too exhausting to document every occurrence. I didnt notice some of the name misspellings though.
lol, good to see the SMP brain trust making its mark on academia.
I’d bet it was proofread, just very poorly. They even thank people for helping proofread.
I’m not even documenting every mistake.
I don’t know - I saw a “tthe” in there. That’s shit that any word editor will fix in a moment. It’s not minor things, it’s typos and shit. Have you noticed the randomly misplaced start quotes that have no end quote? That drove me nuts.
I’m embarrassed i spent $20 on this and feel ripped off.
So… any good jokes in the book?
You mean other than the fact it exists at all?
More fun to shit talk him here imo.
Quoting and/or sourcing Wikipedia is the laziest goddamned bunch of bullshit imaginable. Anyone who tried that nonsense in freshman English Comp would be thrown out on his lazy ass, and rightfully so. The fucking least they could have done is to scroll to the bottom of the various articles, click on those sources, verify that they actually still exist (ie aren’t broken links or haven’t been updated with more current information which might actually DISPROVE the point being made which isn’t at all unheard of) and use those sources in their bibliography, but these clowns couldn’t even be arsed to do that. Just absolutely worthless. I am stunned these guys have a pot to piss in. At the very least, they disprove the existence of God.
Go post that word for word in Mason’s thread idgaf if you credit me or not.
There’s a part of me that would find it hilarious to mess with a bunch of the Wikipedia pages that Mason used for sources and then claim that his source contradicts him. Can someone sneak an edit into Robert E Lee’s Wikipedia page talking about how terrible of a gambler he was?
Ask if his proofreader has a refund policy
Someone should ask what percentage he’s planning to donate to Wikipedia as his main source material.
Brother @anon29622970 doing the lord’s work, guys. Undertitle is not “banned” yet, good going!
What would you say the expectation is for trolling MM’s thread? Keep it simple for us dunces, none of that maths argle-bargle pls.
