Military men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy.
Hey kiddosâŚyâall sobered up yet? Just wanted to wanted to warn you about something the other olds here might remember. When Nixon went to his reward (or otherwise) I was still living down the street from my enormous college library, and I read shitloads of editorials about him, from across the ideological spectrum, and it was astonishing. The old adage has it that âDeath is a good career moveâ but Iâd never quite understood it so well. These things ranged from hagiography (Pat Buchanan was still syndicated in a lot of papers back then) to slightly more measured pieces like âHey! He opened China!â and âHe wasnât that bad!â In fact he was that bad and worse. Could such resuscitation happen to Kissinger? Itâs already started:
The mind boggles. Perhaps my fave:
CINDY MCCAIN, U.S. DIPLOMAT AND WIFE OF LATE SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN:
âHenry Kissinger was ever present in my late husbandâs life. While John was a prisoner of war, and in the later years, as a senator and statesman. The McCain family will miss his wit, charm, and intelligence terribly.â
As if wit and charm can wash the blood of 3,000,000+ off his hands.
Please report all stupidity here or to the Whereupon We Pontificate thread.
Are the maggots eating his rotting flesh also war criminals?
They do say that you are what you eat
Absolutely no one: âŚ
The Yankees: Kissinger was a great man!
I see everyoneâs having a good time in this thread,
Could anyone please link a factual, less emotionally charged, less hyperbolic account of what this man did in his life, such that I should be filled with glee today?
"Kissinger served as secretary of state and national security adviser under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, positions that allowed him to direct the Vietnam War and the broader Cold War with the Soviet Union, and to implement a stridently ârealistâ approach that prioritized U.S. interests and domestic political success over any potential atrocity that might occur.
The former led to perhaps the most infamous crime Kissinger committed: a secret four-year bombing campaign in Cambodia that killed an untold number of civilians, despite the fact that it was a neutral nation with which the United States was not at war."
We literally dont know how many people he was responsible for killing in Cambodia
To give an idea of just how fucked the USâs bombing of Cambodia was
Each of the target areas was small. Area 353 (Breakfast), was only 25 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi) in size and had an estimated population of 1,640 people. B-52s flew 228 sorties into this single area to bomb. Each B-52 carried up to 108 bombs weighing 225 kilograms (496 lb) and spread them equally over a âboxâ about 1.5 kilometers long by one-half kilometer wide (1 mile by 0.3 miles); thus, nearly 25,000 bombs may have been dropped in Area 353 alone. The other target areas had similar saturation rates of bombs.
roughly a metric ton of bombs per square km.
Just checkinâ. Still dead?
Yep, and before someone asks, Rush is still dead too.
One of the articles of impeachment against Nixon prepared by the House Judiciary Committee in 1974 held that bombing Cambodia was a constitutional usurpation of Congressâ war powers. But on July 30, the committee ended up rejecting the article, 26 votes to 12, and it never became part of the coalescing impeachment effort that stopped with Nixonâs resignation.
Did not know that.
This is the correct analysis of Bidenâs statement
