Healthcare in USA Is #2

an even way larger group of people because of this same dumb persistent bullshit think autistic people are retarded savants but most of us are just normal people with bad social cues

Staph infection lead to a hospitalization with intubation, sedation, ECMO, tracheotomy, the works. He has had some improvements over time but with setbacks and eventually the doctors determined he needs a lung transplant to make a recovery.

This could go in a couple threads because Askren is a public figure who has many dumb views, but since I’m just learning about it at the ā€œlol private insuranceā€ part of the story, I chose here. The insurance company is denying the lung transplant surgery and I’m not sure if a reason has been given. Maybe there is some other path of treatment or something? I’m not really sure. Anyway, they are now doing the equivalent of a GoFundMe to raise the funds for his surgery.

Sounds like a death panel.

I can’t find any articles with real updates on his condition, but a lung transplant for this kind of thing is super rare. Legitimately might be experimental therapy, and there was a similar article about a lung transplant that was part of a medical trial.

I think that might be a 1A issue and the insurance company is simply speaking their opinion.

I tried to summarize some of the things from this video. He isn’t a doc either, so he’s explaining things and timeline in the best he can.

I love how he refused to share his name because of safety concerns and then went on to be a total asshole. That kind of behavior is EXACTLY the response I expected from these evil cretins. Instead of changing their business model in response to violent discontent from their customers, they are just going to keep up the same behavior and wall themselves off from consequences.

Speaking of private health insurance, is anyone else waiting on a check from Blue Cross Blue Shield? They lost a class action suit to the tune of like $2.67 billion dollars some time ago, and now have to pay that out to some 5.5 million customers. In four years, I paid like $30k in premiums. I may get 1 or 2% of that back from this settlement, but not sure when that’s going to happen as they have to wait for all appeals to be exhausted before paying out.

It makes sense that the video can exist and people also say they like their private insurance. How many insureds know that insane conversations like that are even happening? The doctor says she’s going to handle the appeals, she’ll work it up the chain, etc. She probably shields her patient - who is battling breast cancer - from a lot of the nonsense, not wanting to stress the patient even further. If the patient sees none of that except an end result of a procedure being covered, then they have no idea.

There’s also the irrational fear that single-payer would somehow be worse, by default. This boogeyman of ā€œwaiting 8 months to see a doctorā€ has been drilled into peoples’ brains here.

basically an ICE shithead

No one knows how good their insurance is until they really have to use it. My cancer treatment was experimental and might not have been approved for someone significantly older than me. If I hadn’t been approved for that treatment, I’d probably be dead.

I know he had to do several peer to peer reviews for prior authorizations but none were a problem. Timing was often a big problem at certain stages. It is correct that the doctor will shield the patient unless something doesn’t go through.

maybe this is part of the problem, normies have no fucking idea how any of this shit works so they think everything is fine, do they really want the doctor spending 60% of their time begging insurance companies?

That’s 60% of their time not spent jabbing people with poison vaccines!

Of course they’re retaliating with legal and financial terrorism which drove her to GoFundMe. #That’sMyCountry :united_states: :eagle:

My options for insurance came down to UHC and Brand X. I did not go with IHC.

My friend has myasthenia gravis. The only useful treatment she’s found is an infusion that costs $100k/month. Naturally her insurance constantly denies previously approved treatment out of the blue and she has to spend half her life on the phone.

In the latest round, they sent one letter to her and her pharmacist approving the medication and then another letter came just to her 2 days later denying it. 2 hours on the phone with the insurance company couldn’t produce any answer as to why the two letters came, or which one was real.

My mom had a similar experience.
