Broadcasters in all sports are forevermore trying to justify their existence, it’s just way way more noticeable with golf because let’s face it there’s fuck all to talk about.

I wish they’d show the layout of the holes more. Like, they show the tee shot and a fairway way in the fucking distance and then it landing but you can’t even really see how narrow the fairway is from the way they have shot it for years.
Then they skip back and forth so much to show someone’s like, 4 foot putt and then cut back 10 mins later and all of a sudden the player who’s tee shot you saw is inexplicably on his 3rd or 4th stroke and you missed what happened.
Maybe I’m just bad at watching but it’s a confused mess. Don’t get me started on how you gotta switch channels 5 times to get a full round, even for a major.
Not even just switch channels, usually also have to download an app and/or pay extra!
That’s what’s cool about the Masters. You know the holes by heart.
I think this could be solved by cameras mounted on drones, but those would probably disturb the weak-minded and easily-distracted professional golfer class.

I always try to play the courses for the week’s tournament in the golf club 2019 game on ps4, that way I’m familiar with the course enough to recognize things. I didnt do that this week though.
The only course I have memorized intimately is pebble beach. Love that course, it’s my dream to play there
I’m not to be confused as a gamer at all and generally don’t like video games but in college we lived through those courses on ‘07 Tiger Woods for Xbox. We got so good we’d have to make sure everything was on hard/fast fairways and greens. My go to player was Paula and my roommate’s was Natalie. If you wanted to use a putt preview you had to take a shot of whiskey first.
The golf club 2019 is great and the physics feel super realistic. 07 Tiger Woods I never played, but it is well known as one of the great golf games. I still gotta get the 2k21 Tour game that recently came out, it’s the successor to the Golf Club 2019.
It’s funny, golf video games really opened my eyes to how much of this game is completely mental. I struggle with a slice on my drives in this game, just like real life. If I’m missing everything left in real life, I’ll start missing left in that game. If my putting is a bit off in real life, it’ll usually be off in the game.

Even though I was rooting for Wolff gotta respect Bryson crushing this course. Only dude under par. Impressive. If only he didn’t play so fucking slow I could root for him.
Obv he bombs. But he’s proven he can also putt on the toughest greens in the world.
It will be interesting what he can do at Augusta in a few weeks. Idk how Augusta changes from April to November but it will be fun to watch. I’m sure the course will be pristine but it’s gotta play differently a bit, right?
Time for golf to enforce the rules. It is a legitimate advantage to take 2-3 minutes on every putt. Also its unwatchable.
The novelty of the mega-bombers is already wearing off. The USGA’s refusal to address the golf ball has ruined the sport.

I agree with like 99% of your takes but I’m not sure about this. Bryson was the only guy under par so clearly the course played like it should have. Unless what you’re saying is that the course should have let no one be under par. He was still hitting 20 yard wide fairways that were cut like the local muni greens at 320 yards. If he can do that then godspeed to him I say. Also dropping 50 footers for eagle.
I haven’t played golf at higher levels or the toughest courses like you have but my FIL who was a former mini tour guy turned teaching pro agrees with your take on dialing the ball back, so I’m sure I might very well be wrong.
Drivers are already capped at a certain hotness so maybe keeping the ball down too should happen. IDK but it seems there are ways to keep scores down like this weekend or at Memorial earlier this year.
Edited to add that I fucking hate how long he takes. There should absolutely be a penalty enforced for that shit. I’m not playing for millions (or even hundreds) when I play with my buddies but when walking we can get around in less than 3:30 no problem.
