I attended this event once and absolutely hated it. Everyone is hammered and acting like idiots. People were literally slip and sliding down the driving area while golfers teed off. Screaming in the back swing. Just chaos everywhere.
While I am generally anti-drunken idiots, I can’t deny there is a part of me that reflexively pushes back against prickly golfers having tantrums when it is not perfectly quiet and still while they are shooting. I’m sure the WM takes it a bit too far in many regards, but I must admit I love these guys getting jeered when they airball a three.
ok but I think it’s fine that it happens one event per year. People who don’t like that environment have literally every other PGA tour stop with a more traditional vibe. You’re not going to grow the game of golf if you broadcast that drunkards are not wanted. I have no data but from my experience something like 20-25% of rounds in the USA are golfed by heavily drinking men, they love the game too.
There is having some drinks and a good time and then there is shirtless bros barfing as they slip and slide down the tee box while a pro golfer tried to tee off.
yeah it definitely attracts a lot of the frat boy douches but its the perfect tournament to have on the day of the SB, nobody is saying to turn Augusta into this. for the people that dont like it there are 30+ other tournaments that cater to them.
It’s kind of a slippery slope between one and the other, I’m just saying golf industry doesn’t survive in the same shape without these bros blowing lots of cash on the game. I think one hole a year is fine for the tour to give them a home
I’m OK with the stadium full of drunken frat boys for one hole in one tournament.
But fawning over it on TV over and over like has long been played out. Just treat it like an ordinary hole and stop interrupting an otherwise intriguing tournament just to show idiots booing a missed green or putt.
When I sent it was all 18 holes. Not just the par 3. If it just the par 3 that would be ok.
All the buzz about Rahm vs. Rory and we forgot about Scottie. Dude is just a golfing machine.
And Young Ricky with another respectable showing.
Tiger going to be in the lineup this week.
huge tiger fan but -175 to miss the cut feels like free money. he never played well at riviera even in his prime
ELDRICK
Just the absolute GOAT. He was piping it today.
Tiger could still be a top 10 player in the world if he was allowed to ride in a cart
I yearn for the days of old Tiger that will never happen again, but I was impressed to see him carrying 300 and outdriving JT and Rory some of the time.
Surprised no one has commented on the new Netflix show. Watched the first episode I was a little disappointed but enjoyed some of the behind scenes stuff with Thomas.
A lot of these guys are insufferable and made me remember how much I hated being around these types in junior golf qualifiers.
Watched 2 episodes. Brooks seems like he could be ok. Just like a bro who happens to play golf. Scottie, Jordan, JT seem insufferable. It’s pretty interesting and I’ll definitely check out the rest.
The thing that is a bit surprising is that these guys seem a bit like headcases. I was expecting them to have mental game coaches and be able to easily shrug off bad shots and such. Kinda like Federer I guess.
Brooks was such an interesting case study in someone who has never found contentment in their life.
I think he truly doesn’t enjoy golf. He enjoys competing and winning and being better than everyone, but he doesn’t love grinding to get better at golf. After watching that episode it’s much less shocking that he took the cash out option of going to LIV.
So you pay $200/month to your cable company to get the sports package that has the golf channel and want to watch tiger, Rory and jt this morning? That’s too bad you also going to need to pay 9.99 to sign up for a subscription to ESPN+ that you will probably forget to cancel afterwards. The pgatour still doesn’t get it.
