Sort of. The judge did say she was inclined to let the plaintiffs play the FedEx cup.
Dont think DJ’s contract is a loan, but does sounds like from the hearing that the rumors are true in that that some players dont get paid more until LIV recoups the guarantees.
so the players don’t really have any incentive to win, right? They’re not getting points, they’re not getting any extra money. who thought this was going to result in good golf?
im cackling at all the players who jumped over who are gonna have buyers remorse in a year or two - i wonder what kinda long term contracts they roped these guys into.
Meh, it’s no big deal that three middling players can’t play the FEDEX playoffs. Next year none of them will have a path to qualify anyway, since they won’t be on TOUR to collect points in the first place.
The bigger question will be whether LIV players will be eligible for future majors.
Meh. It’s just guaranteed money like a baseball contract. I’d be shocked if they have to pay back as long as they don’t bail early, not because of poor performance.
I really doubt the whole signing bonus being paid back out of winnings thing applies to the top talent. This has to be for the Pat Perez’s of the world or whatever scrubs are happy to just be in events where they have no cut and a nice payday for last place.
I am confused. Is the idea that LIV money is like a team sport contract in the MBL or NFL. You get the money no matter what and are not actually playing for anything week to week?
I understood the concept is more modeled after Formula 1, which I don’t watch. Basically there are individual drivers trying to win each race but also a team component to the race and to season long competition.
They get guarantees based on their contracts. Similar to appearance fees that some non-PGA Tour events pay.
And then they play for prize money–both individual and team.
But it seems that for some of the contracts at least, the up-front money is a guaranteed payday, but winnings are deducted against that amount. As others have said, likely not for the league’s stars or certainly not the entire amount, but possibly so for some of the lesser players.
