Golf: No Bones, just Bonesaws

Highlights for those of us that don’t have WSJ Access?

sounds like a blast

Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau, two of the biggest golf stars to join the rebel tour, were the pros in the group. They were joined by former President [Donald Trump], whose course they were playing on, and his son Eric. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who governs the Saudi sovereign-wealth fund that funds the upstart circuit, rounded out the group before later peeling off.

Nothing really insightful but this part made me laugh.

On the second hole, he also drove his cart up to the edge of the green—which left some confusion because not everyone, including Mr. Al-Rumayyan, had yet to hit their shots. After they called out to him, Mr. Trump backed up.

While one of LIV’s catchphrases is “golf, but louder,” the tournament didn’t begin with exceptional buzz on the grounds. While certain areas were crowded on Friday, other holes—even ones with marquee players such as Mr. DeChambeau—had just a smattering of fans as the day progressed. The “fan village” with food trucks and various activities, wasn’t exactly packed either. There wasn’t a line at the bar there midway through the afternoon.

They also mention that they are now playing loud music continuously throughout the golf course during play. Very serious golf competition we have on our hands with LIV.

Want some opinions on this. Sorry if a bit off-topic. I’m a golf hack. Play ~4 times a year and shoot 105-110. Finally want to take golf (somewhat) seriously, so signed up for a Golftec swing evaluation on 7/2 for 7/23 at 8am with the plan to sign up for some lessons if it goes well.

Had a planned call with the instructor the day before the evaluation just to talk about my game for 5-10 min. Next day, just as I’m about to head out the door for the evaluation, I get a call at 740 saying my instructor is sick and we have to reschedule. Would have preferred an earlier call, but not much you can do when I’m the first lesson of the day. We reschedule for today (7/30) at 3pm.

Well this morning I get a phone call stating my instructor left the company and I have to reschedule again. Pretty irritated at this point, but figure we can schedule the lesson for next week. Guy on the phone informs me the earliest they can do is 8/20. I tell him I’ll call him back to let him know if I want to reschedule for then.

At this point, I think I’m going to look elsewhere for lessons and leave a salty (but truthful) review on yelp. What really irritated me during this morning’s call was the employee talking about how this is the ex-employees fault, as if he didn’t work/represent the company.

Am I overreacting/being a bitch here? Do I just suck it up and reschedule for 8/20? How would others handle it?

I don’t know shit about golf, but what I’d do is re-schedule for 8/20. Then look for something else. If you find it, cancel the 8/20 appointment. Depending on how vindictive you want to be, you can give them shorter notice on the cancelation.

I’ve never had a formal lesson so you can take my thoughts as simply one hacker’s opinion, but I’d be looking for lessons from a pro/assistant pro at a nearby course well before I’m looking to take a lesson(s) from a place like GolfTec. The bunch of people I know who have worked there or similar type places feel more fly-by-nighty than your standard club pro.

Obv each individual person is going to give you a completely different experience, but I think the most important thing you need is someone that you can trust in giving you the correct advice. Golf is fucking hard so if you don’t believe in what you’re being told it’s only gonna be a waste of your time and could in fact do more damage than good. Sounds like you’re already having these types of mistrusting thoughts about this place so I would bail and find somewhere else.

Golf: But Louder.

Broke 90 today for the first time. Shot 89, but was really on pace for mid-80s. 16 and 17 had two triple bogies, but pulled my shit together on 18 to snag the 89.

i just read the whole article, but hmph i guess you’re right. when i did it just now it showed an error. i read it by opening the link itt in a new tab, showed right up. :man_shrugging:t3:

The most galaxy brain thing about this is people trying to do the 911 VICTIMS angle.

It does work pretty well for most sites but it also has deals with some sites where it won’t even make an attempt.

https://archive.ph/ usually works for wsj
