Weird this is just being called a “breakfast sandwich”…
Yeah, this has been my experience. The worst banh mi I ever had is a place that makes pretty good pho.
What’s with people in this thread suddenly not understanding what things are
As a general rule, if you go to the actual country and people go to different places for good X and good Y, then X and/or Y won’t be good at a place in the US that makes both.
Alabama bye week while in Hawaii.
Wow, I feel like I’ve been scolded by a favorite teacher.
So, fine, this appears to be the best I have available to me:
I’m willing to buy and try 2 of these to reconsider my apparently anti-gourmet tastes - which 2 should I get?
I’ve never been there, but I’m not optimistic about that place. As suzzer points out:
The menu is a bit concerning with the “burger” and “croissant” options. WTF?
On the other hand, given their name, I think that there is a chance their Banh Mi are fine, and their pho and other stuff are mid.
I think the best play is waiting until you travel somewhere else, if you want to be sure.
Yeah if the place has both sushi and ramen, don’t go there for either.
On Cape Cod there’s an “asian” restaurant that has chinese food, sushi, pho, and bulgogi.
Pretty much anywhere on the pacific coast preferably. There are some amazing vietnamese places in most of California/Oregon/Wasshington
In terms of the ones on the menu, the B3 is the only traditional looking one I would recommend (though it appears to be ground pork, and not pork belly.)
This place actually makes a fucking killer bahn mi even though they aren’t owner or operated by Vietnamese people, so it can be done.
If you have one near you, check it. Its fantastic
Houston is also great for this. I haven’t been there in ages, but there would be no problem getting at top tier banh mi. I assume Chicago and NYC would be the same.
Same. If you must, that’s what I’d go with.
I’m feeling anxiety that someone is going to try and elevate a poor opinion of Banh Mi by going to Paris Banh Mi. I kind of feel it’s like the Hardee’s of its type.
Yes, which is why I think this is the recommendation to follow.
Everyone knows that the real authentic Bahn Mis are made at Oberlin college.
They use ciabatta bread for the banh mi? Seems sus.
I thought so too, but it really works.
I don’t know. Even if it works, I’m not sure that counts.
They’re correct. That’s an abomination. I’ll take the maple bar with the bacon on the side.
