I hope I’m wrong, but very little chance AOC is elected president in the next 20 years.
Bernie couldn’t even get nominated after 3+ years of fascist rule. This country is full of brainwashed dullards on both sides of the aisle. Look how many people who would have benefited immensely from a Bernie presidency voted against him b/c ZOMG socialism.
LOL at anyone comparing AOC to Bernie. The thing those two have in common is political orientation not personal makeup. AOC has significantly more political talent. She’s going to crush the debate format like she crushes every other communication format even if it is stupid. Her charisma is off the charts and we already know she’s a scary capable campaigner.
Ideology matters a lot less to political trajectory than we all give it credit for. The current occupant of the WH is proof that there are no hard rules about what kind of ideology can win an election.
The wins go to the person who convinces the most people to vote for them, and most Americans are not anything resembling ideologically consistent. AOC can absolutely sell her vision to the American people at scale given the opportunity. Most of it is broadly popular.
That’s not necessarily true though. All of our Presidents have at best only weakly challenged the rich and powerful. It hasn’t been shown yet that you can become President if you’re as hostile to their interests as AOC is.
Yes. She’s also female and Hispanic, nether of which make her a good proposition as Pres. to the average American dullard bigot. And then there’s the GASP “socialism”.
This is a solid point. I think the counter argument to it is that she’s figured out how to fundraise without them… but time will tell. I think that she doesn’t need to be president to be the most important politician of the last 20 years. What this country needs is a figurehead for a movement. AOC has the potential to be that person.
If AOC runs for president she will swing to the centre a little. At least she will emphasise the parts that are popular. Expect lots of jobs, green new deal and healthcare.
