Why the hell did she spend $7m on facebook ads; she really thought she had a chance to lose?
She had tons of cash and got a little nervous at the end, I think, given the monied interests dumping money against her. Most importantly, imo, is that she wanted a “LEAVE NO DOUBT” moment about her mandate or whatnot to represent that community.

I think this is right. And she’s probably looking ahead and that sort of fb advertising now can probably help with larger aspirations.
Yup, she’s trying to build power in the House by endorsing progressive primary challengers and helping them fundraise, and raising money for progressive members of Congress. It’s also important that she be viewed as untouchable in her seat, so a resounding win here is key. It also sort of embarrasses the establishment. They wanted her gone in a big way, they threw a lot of money at it, and they got their ass kicked.

Great forward thinking leaders we have on our side.
Well, we’ve got at least one… I think it’s very hard to argue against AOC being one of the top 5 most powerful Democrats in the House right now. She talks, people listen. She raises money. She backs people in primaries, and a lot of them win. So far they’ve been able to block her from getting outsized influence on policy, but she’s going to take it herself after a few cycles at this rate. There’s basically a growing progressive caucus that she’s essentially the leader of.
