I understand the point of your challenge but I’m not going to put in all the effort to dig up examples from post history. There probably is more we agree about than disagree as it is with almost everyone on this board. Let’s just say in general I believe you are more toward the socialist end of the spectrum on this message board and I am more towards the neoliberal end of the spectrum of this message board on many issues.

remember when everyone called me crazy for predicting civil war? now many of you are all wringing hands about it
i dont condone or fantasize about violence despite wild fantasies people may have. im a lover, not a fighter. there are many other ways to resist, but, to many normal people, it is completely understandable that when they feel they have no recourse they will go to violence. the system has failed them and the system has spent the last fucking 4 years gaslighting them by telling it hasnt. of fucking course some people are gonna go robespierre, but, if i may correct or add to your history reference, he also got consumed by his own mob because he was a fucking loud idiot, so Im not sure these types are really the grave threat you pretend they are. I’m extraordinarily wary of anyone telling anyone to stfu now. this is precisely NOT the time to stfu.

If it was state vs state, I’d agree Civil War is possible. But it’s rural vs urban.
that’s even worse when it’s not divided along geographical and state lines. Look at the yugoslavian conflict for an example. It was a patchwork of extremely hostile and extremely different people with really soft boundaries from each other, hated each other and when the shit hit the fan finally and the fragile glue holding it together collapsed, went to town on each other (this is of course a vast oversimplification on purpose for the sake of brevity, im not interested in a nerd derail or semantikes war here). The deaths from that conflict are definitely higher than were reported and its lucky it resolved as well as it did, but a lot of people had to be displaced or die. To me, this is an argument more in favor of a really nasty conflict, because it’ll likely be regional and easier to hide behind mass disinformation, rather than full blown war - this is exactly what I have been saying for many years now

Nah I don’t think you are out of line. I do think Americans in general are just too comfortable to upend their lives like this. I have no doubt the Proud Boys or 3 percenters are itching for violence but no one is willing to fight them based on ideology of things like Medicare or higher wages.
I can tell this publicly because it evokes hilarious reactions but ive had the local proud boy cool guys club pass my house a bunch of times with german sheperds trying to intimidate for some local stuff i was involved with a while ago, to me its a joke , like, ok good for you buddy you still dont satisfy your wife though. thats all many of them are. and my neighbors have my back, im not worried and i dont need to reach for a gun to feel safe like you do. im not any kind of badass but it feels like that scene from tombstone when wyatt earp tells the guy to shoot him, these types are all like that (til one isnt). If they dont see see you’re ready to face death, which most people shouldnt, most people will just fold immediately to this shit though because they have stuff to lose so i agree no one is likely to do anything actually stupid - however, a lot of people are desperate and are going to be absolutely crushed, I truly believe, and people own way too many fucking guns than makes me comfortable.
just please anyone miss me with the shit though that this stuff isnt a big deal and should just cede control
ain’t nobody in this country gonna do hardship of a civil war, within an hour of internet/power turned off it’s over. too many people watching movies, yeah look at those guys digging trenches and eating beans for months

and this is why ive said for years the conflict is likely to remain disorganized and small scale and resemble guerilla warfare more than an outright formal war
there will be so many people deeply affected by a lot of this stuff, I’m pretty sure, to carry out small scale acts of violence to provoke a large local govt crackdown. as ive said in the past - the crackdown looks like local “militias” coordinating with police forces in rural areas to do whatever the fuck they want a lot of the time. whos gonna stop them, seriously? protests will be called
violent and people will be killed whether theyre doing anything wrong or not. blm style large protests will get you killed and wont work. a desire to arm is for some people is rational (and i cant stress enough how much i do not condone it, because it gives these guys an excuse to pull the trigger) - I just frankly think escalation is inevitable. as ive said so many times, i hope that i am wrong.
you know where they still cant kill you though? online, at least not yet. spaces like this are relentlessly scraped, stuff you right (spelling on purpose) here actually reverberates somewhere and costs at least one oligarch a miniscule percentage of their prostitute fund.
Most of the potential combatants spend half of their day consuming outrage porn on social media and the other half watching Love Island on Netflix.
I’m sure some folks will protest and skirmish and die, but many Americans brains broke when they had to endure the suffering of a piece of cloth loosely covering their nose and mouth. That doesn’t bode well for their war footing.

for me personally now living through this stupid natural disaster that im like way far from but experiencing the downstream effefts of - how fragile things that seemed rock solid actually are, and watching otherwise normal people pretty much tear each other apart either in a public discussion or quite literally out of basic primal needs and instincts has made me, personally, realize and fear that if things get actually bad enough most people will resort to primal instinct astonishingly quickly. it was easy for people during covid to whine about wearing cloth when they had shelter above their heads, stimuluses, a debt fueled booming economy, plentiful work, etc. If shit hits the fan people change on a dime. americans are extraordinarily comfortable.
