Article is from 2021. Just pointing out that SpaceX does business with Turkey. Elon may want to be careful though, election day is tomorrow.

But but but Elon is a free speech absolutist! He would never barter speech for dollars!

It is obviously not about dollars, but about free speech. If he follows the government‘s request that is censorship of some voices, but if the government bans twitter because he doesn’t comply, that is censorship of all Turkish voices. So he censors to enable more free speech than if he dies not censor.

That is literally the logic here. And thousands of Elonstans are fallling for it. What idiocy.

BEFORE MUSK, TWITTER had become a cultural engine on par with Something Awful a generation before it, and a more diverse one at that; one where trans shitposters and Black Twitter could have outsize influence on public discourse and mock their would-be oppressors in the open thunderdome the platform provided. But this did not provide a sanitary function for the platform—if mocking bigots worked to truly defeat them, the world would’ve been saved long ago.

On the flip side, it was Twitter’s boulevard of serendipity that gave shitposters such cultural power in the first place, because the rest of Twitter couldn’t help but be exposed frequently to the most viral shitposts.

What could be a better descriptor of Twitter than a realm where its users had ceased to believe anything was either important or trivial? For all its joys, that is the idiom of shitposting; sincere belief is to be mummified by irony, lest you appear an uncool “moralfag,” in the parlance of the platform that gave rise to the form: 4chan.

But the thing is. He doesn’t want to be shut off in turkey and piss turkey government off

Because of dollars

Not because of free speech

I mean. How to maximize free speech while operating in autocratic countries is a legitimate and difficult question.

Most big companies have ethics boards with experts that decide policy on this.

I’m sure Elon fired those folks at twitter tho. So no idea how the decision gets made now.

The decision is tell turkey to fuck off. If they throttle access to twitter, turkey is suppressing free speech

As it stands. Elon is suppressing free speech for money.

You can’t put anything past the FBI/CIA.

You just can’t.

MKUltra!!

The guy in the foreground was trolling them. Got a chuckle out of me. Cross-post:

That subpoena demands Musk turn over any documents showing communication involving him, JPMorgan and Epstein, as well as “all Documents reflecting or regarding Epstein’s involvement in human trafficking and/or his procurement of girls or women for consensual sex.”

The Virgin Islands is suing JPMorgan for allegedly enabling and benefiting from Epstein’s trafficking of young women to his private island in the territory to be abused by him and others.

In 2018, Epstein told The New York Times writer James Stewart that he had been advising Musk after the Securities and Exchange Commission opened a probe into Musk’s comments about taking the company private.

When the Times reached out to Tesla for comment, the company strongly denied that claim, saying, “It is incorrect to say that Epstein ever advised Elon on anything.” Epstein had predicted to Stewart that “everyone at Tesla would deny talking to him or being his friend,” according to an article about their interview.
