I got randomly tested a few times in my aerospace job. If I had tested positive, I would have lost my clearance and probably been fired. Our technicians wouldn’t eat poppy seed muffins for fear of a false positive. I guess we have to take Elon’s word, because there’d be jack all public consequences if he tested positive.
They are just complaining on behalf of all the people/companies that they know DEI has wrecked. It reminds me of the reactionary conversations complaining about people’s preferred pronouns. I usually ask if the person doing the complaining has ever met someone who has requested they use they/them pronouns or
Whatever they are complaining about, and-shockingly- none of them
Have actually ever encountered any of the situations in real life. It usually ends the conversation.
His path to citizenship isn’t well documented in the biographies of him by Isaacson or Vance, as far as I recall. I think both say the investors in Zip2 helped him get an H1-B. After he got it, he’d have been fine. His student visa might not have been valid for some period before that but being Elon he might not have cared. The VCs would have insisted though. Overall I’d say, meh, whatever to this.
Edit: On second thought, I would like to see someone at least ask him about it.
Elon would like to reduce the fundamental but complicated issue of fairness to a binary choice between equity (giving more help to the less privileged, which would be woke and therefore bad) and equality (actually “equal opportunity”, which requires us to do nothing and is not woke and thus good).
the craziest thing about that elon and whoever argument with Cuban is that they really think they are dunking on cuban with this dumb shit. like it’s a full circle jerk in the comments with them trying to do encores to the standing ovation of the “you won’t put an asian woman in the nba” line.
They have no choice. Big brain types like Elon can see that DEI means you HAVE TO hire unqualified people into important positions, like Asian women on the mavs or black men in the C-suite.
