this is easier to understand when you realize his follows are ALSO whiney little punks. they think he’s the Strong man version of themselves because he has money and fame, not because he has any actual leadership qualities of any kind. it is easy for them to visualize this because it requires no actual change to themselves other than circumstances out of their control like “why aren’t i also famous? i’ll buy a blue check so people see my amazing thoughts”

Nothing matters but in a bygone age a skilled primary opponent could make hay of this. A ‘he admit it’ moment on a base issue where the lie is actually important to the appeal of the policy, ie he’s such a chad that Mexico will pay for the wall and not the American taxpayer.
