I served on a Grand Jury for a year, it was never this exciting. I got $20 a day plus mileage, ask me anything.
I think the only time we returned no bill (refused indictment) was when a convicted felon stole gas from a gas station and was found with a butterfly knife. The statute listed ~dozen types of prohibited knives but didn’t say butterfly knife, so no indictment. I remember one armchair lawyer saying maybe the guy cuts cable with that knife.
I was early 20s, and a law and order watcher. I’d like to think now I’d try to do some jury nullification.

It was two days a month, sometimes a day and a half. Only got $10 on the half day!
I had a job, they had to suck it up and pay me. I think we could skip a month or two without trouble - if you asked ahead of time. I want to say the grand jury was at least 25 people, and we needed maybe 15 to have quorum or whatever the correct legal term is.

The most common crimes were bad checks and robbing a Cumberland Farms. If there was a Cumby’s in my county that year that didn’t get robbed, I’d be surprised.
