Dealing with Deplorable Family and Friends

A BLM protest shut down I-40 here a few months ago, so I’m sure they heard about that and pooped their pants

They 100% think cities are like this.

yes, exactly, they have a 80s-pop-culture view of the universe. Trump definitely has solidified this, he loves talking about inner city warzones and whatever, and their brains all just fossilized around that particular worldview. It’s near universal with deplorables.

gotta say man, I can think of a lot worse retirements than a place with an ocean view in a warm climate and easy access to suburban chain dining.

Reminds me of this

I mean really what culture did WASPs create that wasn’t oppressing one group or another?

All i have is gospel music. Everyting else was coopted by them from other cultures.

i don’t associate gospel music with wasps. i think you have to go back further to find something that’s truly european in origin. maybe chanting monks or bagpipes

Modern professional team sports.

got word from my aunt that deplorable dad possibly had a heart attack. driveway was snowed in, was an ordeal for a friend to get to him. jfc. he could not call his kids because he can’t imagine admitting he could be wrong

Hah. I had one of my most fun nights of my backpacking trip there. Randomly ended up there new years eve because I was too late booking anything in Byron Bay.

Meet a newly divorced 35 year old in the hotel bar. Talked with her for an hour before getting invited to a new year’s eve party in the burbs at her friends house. Massive fancy house with an open bar with a proper bartender and dj and literal plates of drugs being passed around. Tripped balls all night and had amazing sex on on the best Molly I’ve ever had. Next day on the other hand was probably my worst hangover I’ve ever had and I had no idea where I was. Her house was like a 45 minute drive or something from the city, but I didn’t remember so I just walked out the door without any plan how to get back. Walked around for probably an hour in the heat before getting some random person on the street call me a taxi. Slept 15 hours or something when I got to the hotel and woke up the next day to a maid telling me it was time to check out.

Sounds like a good time. The Gold Coast Hinterland is nice, lot of sick houses in parts of it, I’ve stayed at this one before.

But yeah I mean I’m sure there are nice exurbs of Miami as well. Most backpackers are trapped in the area around Surfers Paradise, which sucks.

Miami doesn’t really have exurbs, the whole region is hemmed in by the Atlantic and the Everglades and is 100% built out. Maybe the Upper Keys count.

I like the keys but they are weirdly populated mostly by rednecks, except for Key West.

I just assume that any non-urban place in the South is likely to be populated by rednecks unless rednecks can’t afford to live there.

Story checks out.

Sigh…

That’s one way to get deplorables to actually care about covid.

I like “over 100” with no time frame. You know it’s solidly sourced.

I have started leaving drive-by comments on FB posts.

for example, a friend (that i really respected, and it makes me so sad) posted this (she is anti-vax/COVID denier type):

My comment was “How about that? Masks work!”

I haven’t even looked at the replies.

(Also, i’m not sure that meme proves what she or the derposphere thinks it proves)
