I really wanna jab my sister for wanting to move to texas but our relationship has been frosty since I implied she was a moron.
So I have a good friend who is a Trump supporter, generally I avoid politics with him because I don’t want to reassess why we are friends but I couldn’t help texting in reply to him saying he may come and stay with us
Me: We can discuss how Trump lost the election
Him: I know how he lost- I watched the video og the 4am count
Me: Lol
Now I’m sorta on the fence about continuing this convo as I’m a bit concerned what crazy conspiracy he is going to unfold. The worst thing about this is that he is actually really smart, 2nd in his state in his Higher School Certificate, multiple degrees, high level job. It just makes it so much worse that he revels in Trump.
Every time I politely change the subject with these people I feel like absolute shit. So I don’t do it anymore.

Had to cringe as I listened to my mother talk about how great The Villages appears to be. She’s yet to go but she’s confident about liking it.
I’m gonna wait for her to move there and then send her the Chapo Trap House clip owning them.

It’s also located conveniently near Disney. So they invite all their family down and get discount tickets to the major parks. It really is a Deplorable Mecca.
If I ever get to 70 years old or whatever, and my wife and I say “Retiring to Florida sounds like a good idea”, I hope we have some friends that would slap some sense into us.
The first proper bad argument I had with someone I was romantically entangled with was effectively about this. I was anti ice pick and I think I still am, but I’ve definitely lost the idealistic zeal I brought to the party at age 19. No judgement!

Florida is great if you live within a mile of the beach. LOL @ living anywhere inland though. It’s worse than Alabama or Mississippi.

Florida is a big state. I would think that there have to be some good parts somewhere.
When you actually go to places like The Villages its just profoundly sad. A bunch of asshole racist boomers mistreating service staff and getting away with it, taking joy in absolutely nothing other than their power over those less fortunate.
And we’re not talking about people who ever achieved anything here. To be a white boomer and make it to The Villages just means you faded drug addiction and cancer.

I’ve done some beach vacations in the “nice” part of Florida. The beaches are nice but there’s hardly any good restaurants, no culture, its a bland vapid life for bland vapid rich people. Its nice to get away from Canadian winter for a week but I’d hate to live there.
The “nice” parts are Naples and Miami, maybe some parts of Lauderdale. They are completely devoid of soul.
The Keys are great.

Gotta say that my mother isn’t like that at all.
She and her boyfriend complain about a lot of petty shit that has little basis in reality but I’ve never seen them mistreat service staff. They’re actually really big tippers. My mother has faded skin cancer and had quite a few basal-cell carcinoma spots removed.
They’re still racist deplorables and I’m sure they’ll fit in even if they don’t approve of how some behave. It’s apaprently a gigantic place with a shitload of clubs.
