COVID-19: Chapter 8 - Ongoing source of viral information, and a little fun

Oregon is getting rekt, too. Already passed our ATH for cases in a day, 7DMA 100 off ATH, and no signs of slowing down.

The problem is that the governmentā€™s goal is returning to ā€œnormalā€ instead of establishing the ā€œnew normalā€. This is the same problem that establishment Democrats have in not accepting that hyper-partisanship is the new normal and the old ways of bipartisanship are dead (and really werenā€™t that great to begin with).

Ironically, the classic explanation for why the Western Front was such a disaster is that the generals were trapped in the mindset of prior wars, where maneuver and the offensive were winning tactics, so they failed to adapt to the reality of trench warfare, and they kept killing off their men by the thousands pursuing the mirage of a decisive breakthrough. Itā€™s hilarifuriating that people are scratching their heads trying to figure out the exact modern analog to Elvis getting vaccinated on the Ed Sullivan Show or whatever as if thatā€™s a legitimate way to think about policy rather than hopeless button-clicking.
Fauci doing a duet with Rihanna on TikTok is not the answer here. We need an actual strategy, with an actual plan for implementation that has an actual chance of suppressing COVID. If the idea was that we were going to hit on the right public-service announcement to get vaccination rates up into the 70s (which, as Dan noted, is not even good enough), then people were living in a fantasy world.

We always started after Labor Day

Shifts covered. We had someone drop a bunch of shifts suddenly because they tested positive.

They tried to start up the tent doc position again. Thatā€™s where you take care of covid patients that are not super sick. 1/30 have been picked up so far

I understand the analogy, it just doesnā€™t work here, imo. COVID isnā€™t some radical new type of war with machine guns and trenches, itā€™s the same basic biology that can be stopped with the same old-timey battle plan and weapons that worked brilliantly in the past.

The essential difference now is that ~1/3rd of the army has been brainwashed by a Facebook death cult and wonā€™t fight the Germans and thereā€™s no top-down strategery that will ever fix that. You can try some kind of forced vaccination program, but gl enforcing that when the cops are the most pro-MAGA folks out there.

Honestly, giving Trump millions of dollars to do an Elvis-style vaccine promotion isnā€™t the dumbest idea. Actually, what if we hiajcked his Twitter and pumped out pro-masking memes?

I assume the reasons the Admin hasnā€™t offered Trump $10m to promote vaccines are lib heads exploding and norms about Presidents profiting off their service.

Top response:

Oh, your locals still call you a hero??? Thats cute!

Iā€™m just a ā€œliberal cuckā€ who ā€œdeserves to be punched in the faceā€ because i recommended masks and vaccines.

You should have vaxxed and unvaxxed waiting areas for ICU beds.

The vaxxed area will be nice.

Th unvaxxed area will be airport style seating right outside the morgue.

Well,
most of Europe isnā€™t doing too bad on the vaccination front. Of course, weā€™ll just be eaten by some fucking mutant in the end anyway.

Edit: that being said, Iā€™m not at all happy with the Norwegian government for choosing to not vaccinate 12-18 year olds. Their reasoning is that ā€œkids donā€™t get as sickā€. Theyā€™ve also said every kid will eventually get the virus like itā€™s no biggie.

My daughter is 3 so sheā€™s SOL anyway, but that just sounds positively idiotic, even with a 90%+ estimated full vaxx rate. Still amounts to 75-78% for the entire pop or so when you include everyone under 18. Aka not good enough for delta.

So has any theorized yet that this variant is more deadly to younger people or is it just most older people are vaccinated so less of them are dying

Iā€™ll let the experts weight in on this one Stim
