COVID-19: Chapter 8 - Ongoing source of viral information, and a little fun

Perhaps they’re more used to it.

I had students in China and South Korea wear masks during yellow dust season even if they weren’t sick. Same with people who rode e-bikes.

Just thought the contrast between the attitude toward masks here and elsewhere was interesting.

FFS there were locations in the US where high school seniors with first aid training were administering the shots.

This will make nurses unions furious of course.

Just so sad. And infuriating. I sense a large cash settlement

Nettles said her son did not receive the medical attention he needed just days before his death. After testing positive for COVID, she said she took her son to Wellstar Douglas Hospital twice for treatment. The first time she said he was diagnosed with pneumonia and sent home, the second time he was discharged and told to hydrate.

“One of the male nurses told the other male nurse we can’t hurt ourselves trying to help him get in this car. We’ve got to go. And they let go of him and he fell flat on his face inside the back seat of my car,” Nettles said. “I was like can you all observe him for a while? Because I said this is not him. He’s not talking, he’s not responding, and they were like he’s just in pain because of COVID.”

I mean, it’s just some black kid. It’s not a like an attractive blond girl died.

And they did it. Florida with a new record high on the 7dma for infections:

I never thought we would see a new high mid-summer and after vaccine availability.

Well maybe, but stories from family members are frequently not great after something like this happens. As told though there’s a mistake in there, especially with them leaving to another hospital and being immediately intubated.

From my understading we would need something like 97% of the country vaccinated to get umbrella immunity from the delta variant because the R is so insane and the effectiveness is lower, like 85%.

Still, it will help a ton with deaths and hospitalizations

Yes, herd immunity isn’t happening, but the difference between the effect on high vax areas and low vax areas is palpable. We are stuck in the Afghanistan of virus fights now.

Nah, it’s more like 70% or so.

The chickenpox infectious rate ended up being not true

How, wasn’t that the rate before? And now the Delta variant R is 4x normal covid? From my understanding umbrella immunity is based off what the R of the virus is.

Either way the Delta variant is WAY more infectious right? So the herd immunity rate has to be much higher than before?

I’m really glad people are getting vaccinated now, but seems like it’s too late for herd immunity.

Date me!

It’s not something crazy like 97%. I’m not sure we really know very accurately what the R0 is yet.
