Video maker missed a chance to use this defintive early Goth single. I have this on 7" somewhere. Not sure it’s aged very well:

Apparently no one in Provo Utah wears a mask. I was just all over Nevada which wasn’t bad at all – almost everyone wearing a mask.
43% of Republicans think deaths have been too low
Have taxis caught up with the times and allow me to request one via an app and get an eta and see you on the map driving to me?
My problem with taxis was never the cost but rather that you’d call one and then it was 50/50 if it would ever show up. If it didn’t, after waiting 45 mins or so you’d have to call another one. So calling a cab to go to the airport was a 2 hour buffer time ordeal just because of that. Also if you called one from your office building then you had to go downstairs and wait rather than keep working until they arrived because you wouldn’t know they arrived otherwise.
Uber’s big benefit to customers was the transparency and ensuing trust that a car would show up when it said, or shortly thereafter, with no confusion during that time.
That obv doesn’t apply when in a tourist district or at a hotel.
Some cab companies have apps to summon them, but they’re not nearly as slick as the ride share apps. I’ve used one that was like a poor man’s uber. But it showed they were on the way, updated eta, etc.
That’s good
Doesn’t have to be slick, just has to work
Excuse me… Have Uber caught up with the times, the UK and In particular Glasgow City takes pride in ensuring our customers are always picked up, always safe during the ride and we have contact if a passenger wants to keep working until the last moment through personal ring backs etc.
Our App was out as soon as smart phones was available and may have been where Uber got the idea.
Edit :- Yes, you can track our vehicles, ask for a friendly driver that you may have had before & the managers take ALL complaints seriously.
Uber is going through court atm in the UK due to safety issues and not following up on many complaints.
So it’s just USA#178’s taxis that sucked pre-Uber (and maybe still, I don’t know), then
Yes… UK taxis are different… Especially local firms. We rely on the local customer as much if not more than businesses.
I’ve taken taxis in probably 20 different countries, and the ones I had in the UK were the best of the bunch in overall performance.
I’m sure many of you know this. But Black Cab drivers (The taxi is black…) in London have to pass “The knowledge”
This means that they need to memorise and recall every street in London. Including tiny side streets etc. This normally takes 1 to 2 years of studying and you used to frequently see people riding around London on a motorbike with a map open in front of them.
They’ve done studies on cab drivers brains and they have significantly larger development of the parts of the brain associated with memory.
It serves as a barrier to entry that helps support (or did) higher prices/wages. Although those are set by the regulator.
I saw this episode of the The Mind, Explained too.
I was looking at the Hopkins US map for the first time in a bit over a week or so. It looks like they’ve changed the scale of how they color counties by cases per 100k, because just about everything was purple. Looks like a county has to be at about 2k cases/100k people to be purple now, while it used to be 1k. NYC is still purple, but much of the surrounding stuff in Jersey or CT is a shade or two lighter. You know what’s still purple? THE SOUTH. The South indeed has got something to say. There are quite a few counties across MS, AL, LA, GA, and FL. There are some small denominators in there, sure, but that sparse population is supposed to reduce the spread. And there are bad large counties, too. Miami has over 151,000 cases by itself, and a case per 100k rate nearly double any NYC county. Deaths are lower, so a lot of that is more testing now than when NYC was ravaged, but geez.
My roommate who dgaf about staying home went on her yearly corny father daughter vacay with her retired conservative jewish father who lives in Florida. Also she does not drink. Where do you suppose they went?
