Anyone else really at a loss right now on what comes next? I feel like with everything getting OPEN FOR BUSINESS there is going to be a dramatic spike in people letting their guards down and resuming some sense of normal life. I also feel like this is going to create a kind of weird two tiered society with one group doing all the things we were doing 2 months ago and the rest of us continuing to isolate.
I guess what I’m saying is that the biggest part of me knows this is an extremely serious situation but our leaders are basically downplaying it at this point. Even most of the blue state ones. That is leading me to really question my own sanity and whether I am making too big a deal about this whole thing.
How long do you guys plan to quarantine? If you owned a business how long would you keep the doors shut? We are planning on at least through May and reevaluate but the pressure is likely to be immense soon with our state now OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
It really appears to me that people that are in countries that are more familiar with collectivism are dealing with the pandemic better than those who promote individualism.
You can really see the difference in some countries. When restrictions were passed in the CR over the coronavirus, there were no protests over it. Nobody likes wearing a mask and social distancing here but people knew it was for the good of the communtiy and through that themselves as well. There was even social pressure imposed on people by the community if you didn’t practice social distancing or wear a mask to protect yourself and others. Even with restrictions loosening and a limited visible police presence in residential areas, people are still wearing masks even if they can get away without wearing one. It’s why the disease is fading faster here than in other places.
Countries like America are extremists in the idea that the individual good trumps the common good. Even if that individual good has a negative impact on the welfare of others, Americans in general seem not to care. Societies that have that idea are less likely to take to these restrictions without protesting.
Things continue to improve here in the CR. They’ve actually been moving hospital resources away from treating coronavirus to other parts of the hospitals due to the decline in hospitalized patients with it. The basic reproduction number has been under 1 for nearly 3 weeks now. Active cases have been declining everyday for the last week and are 14% lower than the peak number two weeks ago. Less than 2% of tests have come back positive over the last 6 days.
Despite those numbers, there still seems to be some fear among the people here. A poll shows that about half of the people returning to work are afraid to do so due to coronavirus. I get it. The restrictions were removed without any notice and it now throws things into a bit of chaos. Before, there was a plan for a slow removal of these restrictions that was completely sensible. Now with them so quickly removed, it’s a bit uncomfortable.
While things may end up being mostly back to normal by the end of May (assuming no significant increase in cases), I don’t think people will psychologically feel that way until a reliable treatment has been found or ideally a vaccine is made available.
Yes- of course it something in the Star so the headline is a sensationalized.
I think any number is speculation, just the concept that people that “that weren’t even sick” could have trouble down the road is concerning.
Its like people who reach retirement age thinking they have 12-14 left based on average lifespan. The don’t understand that the “average” includes everyone that dies at younger age. If you make it to 65 then your odds are pretty good for another 20+ years.
Being in the Philly burbs I think we are looking at mid June. They even have a standard. Less than 50 cases per 100,000 population over 14 days. (Not sure of the exact details). I think that goes by counties. Just the fact that we have some objective standard is encouraging.
In response to our suggestions as the corona virus task force
We said we needed two teams. One week on and one week off. Work from home or in the office. No clients ever. No paper of any kind in the office, even internally generated
His response “even after the lockdown ends”
Yes you mother fucker
Turns out he was asking for procedures to make it safe for us before the stay at home order is even lifted
Once he realized we meant after it’s lifted his next question is
But for how long
Until there is a vaccine
Today we are applying for ppp Loans for people that will never get that money since it’s too late but we are powering through so we can charge the client $1000
I’m high risk and have been under lockdown since Mar 15 (I just checked my texts, I thought it was longer ago), and fully expect to remain under strict quarantine until 2022. I’m not poking my head out until there’s a proven vaccine.
Yeah if I had an accountant (I do my own accounting because my business is relatively simple) and they wanted 1000 dollars for 5 quarters of 941’s, a bank statement, and paper proof of my rent/utilities/debt payments I’d get a new accountant. Like get fucked dude.
Honestly I’d expect it to be done for free. This is a difficult time and supposedly I’ve been paying you for years. I’m not asking for my bill for the year to be smaller, but I definitely think preparing this kind of paperwork is the kind of thing you’re being paid to be ready for.
My yearly dad fishing trip is the second week of may. I’m very grateful to my mother for forbidding him to go. I don’t think I would have had the heart to tell him no. He’s high risk.
I’ve been on pension for a bunch of years, basically I’m just a housewife, so no hardship. I can’t imagine what people in my situation are doing that have no safety net.
So are they going to take your suggestion? It is good to hear I am not the only one feeling some anxiety about how fast all of this is moving forward although I wish none of us were feeling like that. I’m starting to have those dangerous feelings flash through my head like “What is the point of going through all this if everyone else is fucking up”, etc.
My wife’s birthday was this weekend and we had an online video party. At least two people connected to it from in person house parties that looked busy af. We asked my brother and sister and law where their 4 kids were and they were all at different friends houses hanging out or whatever. The moron class has heard that we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS and is back to living it up it seems. I’m not sure whether to be angry, sad or just feel like I’ve lost my marbles tbh. And then there is that other thought that creeps into my head which is what if I am the irrational one here.
