President Biden said he was taking a series of actions in response to the assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Biden said that Trump, as a former president and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, already receives a heightened level of security. Biden said he has directed the Secret Service to provide Trump with “every resource” and measure to ensure his safety.

Biden also said he has directed the head of the Secret Service to review all security measures for the Republican National Convention. And he called for an independent review of the security measures at the rally to establish what happened.

Biden said he was grateful Trump was doing well, and he offered condolences to the family of the man who was killed, calling him a “father who was protecting his family.”

Biden called for unity, saying “nothing is more important than that right now.” He added he would address the nation tonight from the Oval Office. “We must unite as one nation to demonstrate who we are,” he said.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told reporters on Sunday that there has been no change to security protocol regarding firearms along the outside perimeter of the Republican National Convention security zone due to state laws that allow for the right to carry.

Reporters questioned whether there would be enhanced security measures following the assassination attempt at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday that left at least one person dead. Trump said he suffered a non-lethal gunshot wound.

Here is my take.

I get it. You have no good choice in voting. You have two very bad choices. If I could vote I would simply refuse to do so for president and would be putting in a ton of work on local and third party races.

Your backing Trump strategy really bothers me because Trump isn’t some bog standard republican. I could honestly back your strategy if the GOP candidate was Romney or even DeSantis. I don’t totally disagree with your idea of push back between parties.

But imo Trump poses such a a unique real and mortal threat to US ( and frankly global) democracy, stability and peace that I just can’t understand how someone could think your strategy makes sense weighing the overall chance for harm.

That’s why I said you were larping Nazi because you obviously are not a Nazi but this weird support of Trump looks like you are okay acting one. At a minimum, I would think you would be most reluctantly supporting Trump based on your strategy and not joyfully backing people like lagtight who appear to be genuinely bad people.

Voters don’t care about policy and don’t understand it even when they pretend to in polls. Look at the general feelings of the economy. Market up double digits this year but 50% of Americans think it’s down.

Running on policy is a loser gambit.
