College Football 2024: Hail to THE Buckeyes

Swinney emphasized that he is not against NIL but remains adamantly against the professionalization of college athletics and anything that rises to the level of pay-for-play.

“I am against anything that devalues education,” Swinney said. "That’s what I’m against. I am for anything that incentivizes education. People will come after me because I’ve always said that I’m against the professionalism of college athletics, and I am. Kids don’t know what they don’t know. That’s a slippery slope if you professionalize college athletics, and now you’ve got salaries and taxes and you can fire kids on the spot and they’ve got to pay for their tuition and they pay for their housing and everything else.

Oh no, not SALARIES AND TAXES. Also major lulz at claiming he’d be able to just show up and “fire kids on the spot,” rendering them instantly homeless and saddled with debt. He’s dumb but no way he actually believes that’s how it would work.

I thought that D1 scholarships were not guaranteed, and that a kid could lose her scholarship if she gets cut from the team.

I feel like coaches making $9 million off unpaid labor are literally the last people anyone should ask about how to fix college football.

Dabo is a recruiting specialist/ceo coach who sees the writing on the wall. I think the NIL era will level the field for teams in the top 25ish range. Clemson probably loses the most edge out of the dominant programs in the BCS era +.

I could see NIL eliminating lots of situations where a player loses the ability to complete 4 years at that same school.

South Carolina has got to have a pretty rabid college football fan base though, right? Like, if I were in the Bay area watching TV and I saw a Cal football player in an ad for a local business instead of a 49er, I’d be pretty surprised. But if I were in Burmingham, I would consider it standard. Being in a media market with a rabid college fan base and much less of a pro presence has to be an advantage for NIL deals, and Clempson would seem to check those boxes for me.

I think that’s generally correct, but I’m sure there are 9,000 pages of code covering the details. But yeah point is he’s definitely concern trolling.

I think he also realizes that both his pay and power are in jeopardy if labor earns anywhere near fair value. Much harder to expect everyone to be subservient to all of your stupid orders and whims as the plantation owner when they’re driving Lambos, swimming in cash money, and can tell your Jesusy white ass to eat a fat dick. That probably covers most college coaches though.

For sure.

I just don’t think they have enough boosters with money who are wiling to spend it.

They also probably lose ground against South Carolina.

I dunno, their fan base seems tuned into this rumor that TAMU boosters pooled together a $30M NIL fund that landed the consensus #1 recruiting class of 2022. Clempson’s NIL booster fund is apparently not even 20% of that and targeted at 500+ athletes, not just football. At least some of the fans seem to realize that this article is terrible for them on a recruiting front, but the majority appear to “agree with Dabo 100%” and will likely be in for a rude awakening as they continue to slide down the class ranking boards.

I recall there was a lot of hemming and hawing over Clempson QB DJ Uiagalelei’s NIL deal with Dr. Pepper. Some takes colder than others:

Checking in on hit status:

Five-star recruit in Class of 2023 signs agreement with collective that could pay him more than $8 million

Does all this mean that we might someday have an NCAA video game with actual player names (preferably made by not-EA)?

theres already a tentative release date in 2023. I have called dibs on Arkansas for the UP league that I will run if nobody else does.

On a side note, Fisher has come out crying about “cheating” in the portal. Complaining about tampering.

They just signed a top 5 class in history lol. Texas lawyers are obviously giving very aggressive advice to whoever is running the NIL funding. They are correctly banking on being pardoned by an impotent NCAA.

It’s a real shitbag move by Fisher.

Yeah this is a complete bullshit move btw. Although should we be surprised that the same school that tried to hire Art Briles would pull shit like this?

Every D1 scholarship has the option to be 4 years. Major sports typically do this. No idea about other sports.

What’s the optimal college town for me to show up in and scam my way into being a guy who handles NIL money?

East Lansing

Ann Arbor. Fab five. LDO.

Yup. Joe Paterno was a piece of shit well before Sandusky

What’s fucked up is that he served just three years for the rape in Pennsylvania and they only got him because he skipped bail and went back to Long Island since the judge decided to allow him to go home after being convicted. It took him murdering someone in a taxi cab to get punished. And at the tail end of his life, he got out on parole (to be fair, he had cancer at the time and then COVID so it was probably compassionate leave).

Also Paterno’s kids are pieces of shit

JoPa is a fucking cult in Pennsyltucky.
