College Football 2024: Hail to THE Buckeyes

haha this one was already cancelled and no one noticed I guess

If SEC all gets pozzed there is absolute nothing to stop 1. Oregon.

The couple of high schools I’ve been to have been dramatically worse than college campus has. At least with our team and those that are currently on campus everyone is pretty aware. I go to a high school and it’s…a free for all.

can espn just do a gameday spinoff called “kids with cancer” and put that shit on the ocho? let tom rinaldi host it so we don’t have to see him ever again.

I mean, look, I care about kids with cancer, nobody cares more about kids with cancer than me

Is being a home dog to Liberty rock bottom? Tune in in 30 minutes to find out

Liberty 38 @ Syracuse 21.

Today is the day the MW, and Sabo’s favorite FBS team, his Aztecs, start play for 2020. It looked like this day wouldn’t happen when the MW cancelled the season earlier.

I should say The San Diego State Aztecs of Los Angeles… as SDSU Aztecs will be playing their home games the next two seasons at Dignity Health Park in Carson, LA County, CA. This is the home pitch of the MLS LA Galaxy, and was the the home away from home fans for the NFL’s LA Football Clippers 2017-2019. As an aside: playing without fans has allowed the LA Football Clippers to not to have home games ‘overrun’ by away fans for their first time in 60 years.

It’s a strange choice of venue, 115 miles from campus. SDSU was originally scheduled to host UCLA this season. That away game for UCLA would have been closer to their campus (22 mi) than their home games in the Rose Bowl are (27 mi).

ETA: SDSU leads the series 19-10 (which counts as an UNLV win the 1984 game they won on the field 30-14, but was after-the-fact forfeited as an NCAA penalty). SDSU won last season near Las Vegas 20-17. Neither team has ever played at Dignify Health. SDSU is -600 (14 pts).

These games are staged for tv, which practice fields lack the infrastructure for. The options were Petco, FCS Uof San Diego’s Torero Stadium, or two JC stadiums. Petco was said to need alterations for football (although they’ve played soccer there before), and I’m not sure Torero or the JCs lights are good enough for televising night games, and the Aztecs traditionally only play night games.

SDSU said that Petco wasn’t viable because of the modifications and having to schedule around the Padres, and they wanted to give the players a FBS level experience, which they couldn’t do at USD or the JCs.

FBS teams always stay in a hotel the night before home games. It seems crazy to play 115 miles away, but it really only adds time. The players already assemble on campus, and are bused to a hotel. Instead of a ~0:15 drive, it’ll be a ~2:15 drive. They have four home games this season, and seven next… we’re talking about 44 extra hours over two years.

But yeah… that’s 16 extra hours on a bus this season during the pandemic.

The FBS Football Aztecs of Carson managed to have a more home crowd feel than the NFL Football Clippers of Carson ever did… the stands were 100% empty, including cardboard cutouts. I seriously thought for a long time that stadiums should print pix of fans on the seats themselves. That way the stands would always look full like the cutouts, but also… when you bought tix on the secondary market, you’d get to sit on the face of the season tix holder who didn’t want to go to the game.

Sabo the dog’s Aztecs 34, UNLV 6. Next up: Fans in the stands @ Logan UT; Aztecs -7½.

But what I really wanted to blog about is this: It’s “That Wednesday”… to perhaps paraphrase the long forgotten ad campaign to debut the long forgettable ESPN-EWS channel. That dreaded day when there is just no sports on tv. In this case it’s the first day since July 18th that there hasn’t been any Spring Training, MLB, FBS, or NFL games on. Damn you to the devil… Rays for losing !!!1!

All I can do is predictions I guess, My Golden Bears of Berkeley finally kick off a week from Saturday @-Memorial vs the Huskies of Seattle. This season, Cal will go bowling.

Will Muschamp appears to be the first major college coaching casualty of 2020, somehow. I guess it’s because the SEC started before the Big 10?

UW ravaged by COVID and can’t field a team. GJ P12, this shitshow was totally better than just sticking to cancelling the season and letting the rest of the country’s kids play virusball without you.

Yeah pretty obvious there was a decades long pattern of abuse that Bo Schembechler was aware of. Take down the statues.

"Nothing was ever swept under the rug or ignored,” Harbaugh said.

this was a few days ago regarding that stuff, lol Harbaugh

NIL laws about to go into effect in 5 states.

Arkansas’ will start in 2022. I haven’t checked for other states besides these six. I know there is bipartisan discussions going on right now for federal legislation.

Bo obviously knew, just terrible.

Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan all allowed university employees to abuse hundreds of people, willfully ignoring obvious signs of guilt. Fucking awful.
