College Basketball 2021-22 Season Thread

I see loyola is 14-2 with losses to 17-1 auburn and 14-3 sparty by 2 points

they’ll get the 8/9 game b/c “they didn’t beat anyone” right

or 11 seed if they lose one conf game right

Oh god, we’re gonna be hearing about that diva Sister Jean all tournament again aren’t we?

they’re a top 25 team who won’t be seeded there so yeah probably

SEC the #1 conference in football and now basketball apparently.

In case you missed it last week, this dunk was insane.

(Bama will lose to unranked whoeverthehell next week)

Tide has some huge wins. Better wins resume than anyone probably.

@Chuckleslovakian

Kentucky up to #2 Kenpom. Then it’s like a 4 point gap to #1 Gonzaga which feels like the fakest news ever. I know his model is supposed to adjust for SoS but would bet he isn’t doing it right. Zags are #165 SoS and there’s no way I’m buying that they have the #18 overall defense in cbb.

Kentucky is really good. When Washington and Wheeler have been healthy they’re one of the best teams in the country.

Auburn is just a freaking wagon right now. Loads of talent, really well coached, all the pieces just fit together.

Yeah I really want a rematch with Auburn in the SEC tourney.

So…thing I just learned about that I couldn’t believe at first, but I absolutely love

In the top left corner of kenpom there is a little curling button. Kenpom has done his system for curlers

If you want to be really confused by KenPom then check out Providence. They’re sitting at #48 despite crushing the Big East, 19-2 record, and SOS not too bad at 44.

I think they aren’t winning games by much, lots of single digit wins, but at some point doesn’t piling up tons of wins against quality teams matter?

I mean based on their positioning, they wouldn’t even be good enough to get an at-large bid, even though they obviously will.

well it’s not that confusing when you look at their results, they’ve barely beaten a bunch of bad teams and nearly all the wins were single digits and got absolutely thumped in their 2 losses

but they’ve also barely beaten a bunch of good teams, very unusual team this is

but they haven’t played nova yet either

they’re probably overpunished a little as some teams they beat they’re behind but kenpom don’t care

I’m not going to go all “Duke home refs” (maybe I am), but boy, last night’s Virginia-Duke game was weird. Virginia won on a last-second three - only their second three of the game - after basically owning the game.

The reason it was close was mainly free throws: Duke 18-22, Virginia 5-9.

Ok, maybe Virginia took lots of jumpers. Nope. Duke was 6-17 from three, Virginia 2-12 (so that discrepancy was another reason for the close score). Also, of Virginia’s 69 points (NICE), 52 were in the paint. 52. That’s the most for any Tony Bennett Virginia team.

Not shown: Virginia players quite literally got clubbed in the head multiple times and didn’t get calls.

At least Virginia won. lol Duke with 6 McDonald’s All-Americans losing to this team at home and basically getting worked all game, despite the close score.

Ha - find the one Virginia fan at Cameron Indoor:

Who would have thought at the time Auburn@Arkansas would have been the bigger @Arkansas game even with UK being a top 5 team.

That being said UK@Arkansas still obviously going to be extremely wild and worried about it. Line is going to be close.

Do other midwest schools do the lame-ass “please stand while the band plays our alma mater” at halftime like Wisconsin does.

I dare say its as annoying, but certainly less cringe, than Jump Around.

I think calling Jump Around “cringe” means that “cringe” has officially jumped the shark

2 months ago I was ready to buy out. We had a huge influx of talent come through the portal but it wasn’t meshing.

You guys look scary good. Should be an amazing game.

Also, we need a tie breaker for last longer. Coin flip?

At least the Oregon copy of this, umm, tradition uses a video with a connection to the university (“Shout!” from Animal House), as well as mirroring the gameday experience of underpaid black people performing for white people.

Beats a novelty rap from 1990.
