Any recommendations? Keen to try something a bit new or different. Looks like they have a big range

Definitely get that orange bourbon since itā€™s cheap and from a COE winner. They even say itā€™s their favorite long-term coffee which should tell you everything. Itā€™s up to you whether or not you wanna pay $20 USD for 100g of gesha.

Today Iā€™m having the first coffee Iā€™ve brewed that I actually thought was excellent at 4M (1M cal) and max water temp. Borderline espresso grind. Itā€™s a washed Malawi AA from S&W about two weeks off roast. Iā€™m diluting TWW to get around 100 TDS and 40 ppm alkalinity. Used 16:1 with fairly standard pulse pour technique in a V60 01, no monitoring of time or temperature. Itā€™s not perfect enough to be a Yahtzee but Iā€™d serve it to people.

Ah. Maybe next time. Iā€™d already pulled the trigger on these three bad boys.

Tried the pulse pour technique yesterday. Got a very interesting cup of coffee. Lots of flavor. Almost syrupy compared to previous cups, and this was a bag of beans that is just meh.

Looking forward to playing with this when my next online order arrives from Proud Mary.

Bought a refurbished moccamaster. Whatever their flagship model is. Guess their BF promotion is refunding random orders for 5 days.

Tried the same thing with this pink bourbon thatā€™s same amount of time off roast. Still really bad. Sour lemon acidity, nothing interesting happening. Visually the roast level is considerably lighter but dunno how reliable that is.

just got an email from FedEx that my order from Apollonā€™s Gold is held up in customs with a link to a FDA website (they want ā€œPrior Notice for Food Articlesā€). This requires some sort of account to access, I assume this is something the shipper is supposed to take care of???

I havenā€™t been able to extract the pink bourbon yet either. Mine is pretty damn fresh off roast though so Iā€™ll come back to it in another week or so.

This sounds like some major bullshit for a few pounds of roasted coffee. Maybe itā€™s just a FedEx thing:

Big surprise that the holdup here is for TeH T3Rr0r15m. I canā€™t imagine why on earth youā€™d need to fill out a prior notice to FDA for roasted coffee unless the exporter literally filled out nothing at all, but then still seems like it should be on them.

yeah every time Iā€™ve dealt with customs itā€™s been as the shipper.

email update from apollon

Thank you so much for ordering our coffees!
Itā€™s already submit through fedex japan so the parcel will be released soon.
Sharing the PNC file just in case here.

Cheers,

I just now got the Fedex alert that you were talking about. Iā€™m gonna guess theyā€™re way understaffed and running way behind on clearance. DHL has that problem at CVG and stuff just ends up sitting there for several days.

Unmarked package?

Yea. On my third pot right now. Still donā€™t have the grind size where I want it.
