I mean. Obviously Europe is trading with China. But there would be a big difference in a military alliance. For a start China would have to stop supporting Russia.
since this is the pro-china #1 thread we can just agree with what china has been saying for decades, that china has no interest in military invasion. that taiwan has always been china and of course remains part of china, but if they want autonomy so badly let them have it. china has been around 5000 years and it’ll be around long after america balkanizes (after 2029 when trump asserts the election was rigged) and withdraws its ridiculous military overreach, literally the other side of the world from anything that could be considered defensive
USA used to build all the biggest stuff in the world when there were a lot of poor people in the USA. China builds a lot of big infrastructure projects because they can put an unlimited number of people on it. In some of the rich Middle Eastern countries they have tremendous building projects because they employ tons of slaves to do it. Europe doesn’t really do any of those things to that degree and hasn’t for a long time, but it’s just the nicest place for people.
Minus the cool stuff.
I think Europe is hoping Trumpism is temporary but slowly realizing it might not be, but you’re already seeing moves on the trade side towards aligning east (e.g. the huge India - EU trade deal which recently was finalized after 20 (!) years of negotiations) - including with China. I’ll leave it to others to speculate on what it would take for Europe and Chinarrrr to ally militarily.
Of course this is not possible in the US now because of the broken culture, but an absolutely rational course of action for the US Federal government would be an astronomical Keynesian undertaking where they borrow like $20 trillion dollars and put it all to work hiring millions of Americans to repair and upgrade the national infrastructure. This is SOCIALISM but it will take something like this to rescue the US from 40+ years of failed Reaganomics.
Yeah, but trying to break records for tallest building or highest bridge or robot subway is not what USA should be doing. Fixing bridges and roads and tearing out a lot of roads for walkable cities is more like it. iyam.
is a much nicer place to live than
Yes, 100%. Although grand projects that actually have some practical value are also useful both as public works and to civic pride doesn’t have a value of zero. The Hoover Dam comes to mind.
What they want to avoid is socially worthless bragging rights projects like making the biggest hotel in the world or something.
This would be interesting to see on vacation, but I would hate to have to go to this every day…bigger than an airport? That’s a good thing?
Crossover from the ICE thread but we should definitely just bring in tons of people, make them citizens and supercharge infrastructure work

can you imagine?
Oh good thing Donny the builder will certainly get this part right
I think the decision to ally with China isn’t mutually exclusive with USA, but the stability from China comes not from any institutional superiority. It comes from Xi being more predictable and sane than Trump, than can change when the guy in charge changes. Europe can and does buy manufacturing from China today. Any nation that concentrates power in a single leader will be risky to deal with.

In america, the police block the road so the ambulance can’t reach you in time after they shoot you

In general I think China is still fairly weak overall and has some fundamental problems, but it also has some real strengths. Note that more than half of my work is for Chinese companies. The Chinese I work with are generally sharper than the Americans I work with (probably because international vs regional businesses).
I’ve been using AI to check my students’ essays for a while now.
It does require some oversight as AI is not perfect at reading English if the handwriting is poor. And I would argue that because of that, it doesn’t actually save any time. But it lowers the mental workload and provides more organized and detailed feedback than my red pen alone could.
