I guess you move with the same hand you hit the timer with? One person was struggling to play left handed.
I grew up playing OTB blitz with analog clocks. I usually played 7 min., since even as a teenager 5 min. felt too fast to me.
Yes, you have to move the piece and hit the clock with the same hand. I never knew anyone who switched to their non-dominant hand when in time trouble.
Thing about irl blitz that you might not get if you havenāt played it, you see your opponent reaching for a piece and typically you know what move they are going to make. If youāre in time trouble youāre already reaching for your reply as they are touching their piece. Not unusual to hit the clock again near instantly after they hit it since the time you both take to make moves overlaps.

Opponent just resigned this game despite the engine saying he had about 4 points advantage. Took me a while but I see where heās winning. Thought Iād still be ok with my bishop covering that center pawn but forgot the queen would then attack it once he recaptured.
First game Iāve won from resignation while losing. Probably should have castled earlier but got piece hungry
Yeah f4 is way too dangerous there, in one move opening dangerous diagonals for Blackās bishops and badly weakening e4. Itās a move you probably want to play eventually but thereās no rush as Blackās Knight isnāt really threatening to do anything right now. Havenāt looked with an engine but I would guess f4 is a pretty decent drop in the evaluation.

My buddy and I play pretty consistently. Iām like a 1300ish and heās probably 900. So while we both are trying to win games and not messing around, we do experiment with different openings. Every time I think about this opening I start giggling uncontrollably. Showed it to my wife who has a basic understanding of the game and even she was laughing hysterically. He got so excited to put my king in check so Iād lose my ability to castle.
And yet I outdid him in the endgame. I spent a while looking for mate and gave up and decided to just get a queen and put him out of his misery.

gotta say pogchamps 4 is quality entertainment so far from what I remember one dude rage quitting the entire tournament in the opening match, so many queen blunders out of nowhere, stalemates out of simple ladder mates and one game today thereās maybe 8 pieces on the board left with 2 hanging knights by pawns and the guy doesnāt take either one of them at any point, later can swap out a rook for said knights but realizes a rook is better than a knight so he doesnāt do that and later ends up losing said rook to one of those knights but still wins the game, multiple people either hungover or drunk. One guy is rapping chess from twitch chat lines in real time. Thereās so much good shit in here.
In 2018 I had just made my comeback into chess. I am Dutch so the Tata Steel tournament is a huge thing over here. Yifan had a terrible tournament that year and all the comments I heard made me be ashamed to be a part of the chess community. If Caruana has a bad tournament, Caruana has a bad tournament. If Yifan has a bad tournament, women are terrible at chess and they should not try to compete against men.
I hope to live to see the day where the best female player will be judged on her own merits, without it being part of a greater thing. I am pessimistic though.
Iāve completely plateaued in this stupid game. Right around a 1350. Iāll win like 3-4 in a row and think maybe Iām turning a corner and then immediately lose 3-4 in a row after. I used to be solid in endgame situations (at least for my rating) and now I blow like every single one. I suck
