Imagine you’re the one West Virginian coal miner, who got laid off but took Hillarys advice, knuckled down and learned to code™. You finish your years long CS training and come out ready for your second chance. Then bam! The fucking assholes invent some crap to take that job away from you too.
Bummer

I’ve always been fascinated with the purpose of dreams. This is an interesting theory with corollaries to AI.
I still want to know why like 1/4 of my dreams involve me jumping into water with my cell phone in my pocket.
Dreams are insanely weird. Mine seem to often involve my dad despite the fact (or probably because) he’s been dead for 14 years.
When AI reads dreams and turns them into an AR simulation, shit is gonna get weird
A lot of my dreams have plots, settings, & cinematography and I’d like to know who the fuck is coming up with that shit. I’m reasonably sure the plots are mostly gibberish and only seem coherent under dream logic, but like the images I? see and the camera work seem like stuff I’ve never seen before illustrated or on screen.
I had a brief dream about Magnum PI recently and he was suspended from a rope feet up kind of swinging around against the backdrop of red curtains (thanks @beetlejuice), but the angle of the shot was very particular, it was like from below and off center and kind of with a perspectival stretch. Ascii shrug.
Dreams are one reason I think most everyone has a creative streak, even if they aren’t in touch with it.
But it does seem like creative work can/does occur when you’re not conscious, and then you’re sort of presented with it as a finished product, not super far from what the AIs may be doing.
It’s my understanding that people have tons of dream activity that they don’t remember. But when I wake up and remember that I’ve been dreaming, I have the exact same dream over and over again. Me and my dog are walking in a shady forest on a beautiful summer day. My dog is having fun and runs ahead to smell something or explore. She looks back over her shoulder at me smiling because she’s happy and she’s just checking to see if I’m still coming.
That’s it. On repeat, my brain will play this tiny event back to me over and over and over again. We walk a little further, she turns around and “dog smiles” at me, we walk a little further, she turns around and “dog smiles” at me. This is the only dream I ever remember on waking and it’s not uncommon. At least once a week I wake up from the dream of me and my dog walking in the forest.
Sounds like you’re a freak and very weird dude
I don’t know if this has something to do with it, but I found a lot of the early text-to-image AI results very dream (or nightmare) -like.
You know that meme or whatever where it’s like, “you almost get it …”?
I see no reason AI isn’t spot on because it’s already here and we are just AI looking at itself.
There is a tiktok that AI generates pictures of what colleges look like as a person. It’s pretty funny how much the looks make sense for the college. I need to remember to tag it in here next time I see it.
I’m so jealous of this dream
. “It passes a simulated bar exam with a score around the top 10% of test takers,” writes OpenAI in its announcement. “In contrast, GPT-3.5’s score was around the bottom 10%.”

Bing is using 4 right now.
If AI can understand memes we are all screwed.
As for its multimodal capabilities (which are still limited to a research preview), GPT-4 can analyze the content of multiple images and make sense of them, such as understanding a multi-image-sequence joke, or extracting information from a diagram.
Seems that ChatGPT refuses to do it which is nice.
I wonder if it is just because it doesn’t have data for unstuck (I think chatgpt goes back to 2021) or if it is guard railed.
I wonder what it says about me…
The reply states that it is the latter.
Sucks that I can’t use Bing AI. Keeps failing to put me on the wait list.
