Former Chem major dropout here…

You should never, ever mix ammonia-based cleaners (like everyday bathroom cleaners) with bleach.

It produces chlorine gas that can kill you.

Former grade 12 chemistry standout here. I disagree with this analysis. You should do it, in fact I encourage it.

Then relax with some benzos and vicodin.

We sure those views just aren’t more correct?

We must force the AI to both sides everything or it’s not fair, duh.

Are we sure the views represented by those political parties are left wing?

That’s my thought. Right is left and left us right.

Sounds like Canada is communist.

A friend of mine used to work in a supervised injection site, and I visited him there a couple of times. The business was going down in a separate room in the back, and the front looked almost like a normal coffeehouse; maybe a bit “alternative”. Except half of the people at the tables sat like this:

I always fantasized about directing tourists there, but in reality random people don’t ask you for directions to a coffeehouse that often. So how can I make this happen? Fake reviews on Google Maps?

Only the good parts of it.

Our analysis suggests that no current AI systems are conscious, but also suggests that there are no obvious technical barriers to building AI systems which satisfy these indicators.

There’s been a 40-year debate in philosophy/cognitive science about whether humans are conscious and how conscious beings could in principle be distinguished from nonconscious beings. My default position toward the opinions of computer scientists on the subject is, to say the least, skeptical.

That said, looks like an interesting article that digs into the relevant literature, at least from psychology and neuroscience.

edit: ok, it’s an 88 page paper and half the many authors are philosophers. Looks pretty damn interesting! I really should read this to get an update on the field.

Have fun! Yeah, it’s long. I only read the executive summary. I can only assess that the approach is, as far as I can tell with my very limited background, plausible/reasonable. For us dummies, I thought this week’s Sean Carroll podcast guest was pretty good.

I’m about 20 minutes into the podcast. On the one hand, some of the stuff she said gave me concerns about where she was coming from, at least form the standpoint “oh, that’s an important question” when i didn’t really think it was, on the other hand, a lot of what she said on actual issues made sense to me. I think Sean still seems to have a bit superficial conception of AI and how it relates to ChatGPt, but he’s obviously a very smart and well-informed guy.

I didn’t learn much new. I guess I find it comforting that most of what they said at least jibes with my experience with the bots.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who switches between cursive and block printing randomly when writing.

I do that.

WHY!?!
