Nobel prize winner and guy who did a job few could have. Could go in either thread, but most I think would agree this is the correct one.

Significant enough for Pitchbot to abandon the gimmick for a moment.

Love Shane MacGowan, and The Pogues. Poor bloke didn’t have much quality of life over the last few years. A husk of his earlier brilliant but drug addled self. It’s a weird sort of mourning I feel for a man who died earlier than usual but still lived longer than he should. Bah. If we could all only be half as inspired as he was. I’ll always remember him above all else for the following trio of ballads. They’re some of the best love songs these ears have ever encountered.

Another one of the good guys gone.

I was brought up listening to Irish folk and traditional music, by 11 years of age I was getting into pop/rock, they seemed like different worlds. Then along came this London - Irish group mixing Irish folk with punk, it was great stuff, I still have vivid memories of the first time I saw The Pogues on Irish tv and I was instantaneously hooked. Arguably the most important figure ever in Irish music, Ar dheis DĂ© go raibh a anam.

Both Tuesday Morning and Love You 'Till The End were post Shane Pogues. I’m fairly certain both songs were written by other members of the band, which goes to show as much as a genius songwriter Shane McGowan was The Pogues were far from a one trick pony.

A great legend has passed. A true hero and believer. Farewell beloved comrade. My thoughts are with your family and friends. We will continue the good fight.

I’ve listened to enough 5-4 to dispute her place in this thread.

She co-wrote Bush v. Gore, that should be enough to sway anyone.

I can’t name a single Republican who belongs in this thread when they die.
