Define “local”. Our favorite book store in Toronto ships books to us (about 2 hours north of Toronto). It’s just as convenient as Amazon, and they put little hand written thank you notes on the box (awwwww).
Sounds local to me.
A couple of good articles about the Bessemer unionization effort, and the aftermath in which:
This relates to a point I’ve made before that “progressive” is a label without an ideology. Therefore it can be subsumed into being something that corporations can glob onto while achieving their own ends at the expense of the working class.
The tech companies have also created a Chamber of Commerce type trade group to advance the interests of the owning class. It’s called the Chamber of Progress. LOL. What could exemplify progress more than union-busting.
My company directly competes with amazon so I feel I am already doing my part
BUMP
say what you will about amazon, they are really fucking good about making customer experience A++++, e.g. the ability to drop off returns at whole foods is soooo frictionless, you just show up with your shit, you don’t have to box it up, they scan a code on your phone and youre done
so today I show up at whole foods at 7:30 (they open at 7), and the guy at the customer service desk sees me coming and before I even get there he’s like SIR YOU NEED TO USE THE KIOSK and I’m like what kiosk and he shows me but then he’s like THE KIOSK DOESN’T OPEN UNTIL 10 and I’m like WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME
give me a fucking break, the fucking automatic kiosk robot gets a better break schedule than the humans, what the absolute fuck making me wait until 10 to deal with a fucking computer is a violation of my hippa rights fuck off bezos go back to fucking space and never come back
Gave in and ordered an ergonomic pillow from Amazon. Can’t find decent side-sleeping pillows in the CR for some reason.
Honestly, I haven’t missed Amazon much since leaving America. Most things I’ve been able to find at a similar price in another place locally. Just takes a bit more time to get the product.
The director who presided over the NLRB hearing will recommend whether a new election is conducted, the union said in a statement, but the final decision whether workers will be allowed to cast new ballots and form a union ultimately lies with the director of the regional NLRB office based in Atlanta.
Some workers at the warehouse in Bessemer alleged that Amazon went to great lengths to discourage them from voting for the union, including hanging signs over toilets in bathroom stalls, conducting mandatory meetings about the downsides of joining a union and hiring people to walk around the warehouse to talk to workers about why they should not join a union, three Amazon employees in Bessemer said in interviews this year.
A core accusation by the union is that Amazon illegally arranged for a U.S. Postal Service mailbox to be installed in the fulfillment center parking lot during the election. The union alleged that it gave the impression that Amazon might have had access to the secret ballots cast by workers or that workers might be under surveillance as they cast their votes. Amazon is alleged to have moved forward with installing the mailbox even after the NLRB denied its request to place ballot drop boxes onsite.
These programs must suck!
Other companies like Walmart, Target, Chipotle, and JBS, a meat processor, offer comparable tuition subsidy programs, according to The Wall Street Journal.
I loathe Amazon and yet have spent thousands with them this year. I’m lower middle class and feel I don’t have a choice. It is shameful. Can I expect a better culture from the Waltons? Stuff is almost always cheaper, returns are free with Bezos. Just suck it up and pay more with less convenience I guess.
Also, would random company X be any better? I am kinda doubtful of that.
Driver who sent those exact texts is an absolute pro. Going to get paid.
that reads like a local contractor deal, and amazon notoriously didn’t treat contractors well enough even when they worked at headquarters. having said that, the dispatch is not doing their job there. they are supposed to push back on unsafe conditions. and charge a ton more too. with labor shortage, i imagine cdl drivers should be evaluating their options more often.

Having a short fling with Amazon for the holidays. Plan to break up with them early January when my one month Prime trial membership expires
It’s not unusual for Amazon delivery drivers to come across similar incidents, Lontz said. “Two days prior I had been bit by a dog. Two days before that, I saved a baby who wasn’t even two 2-years-old yet locked in a house,” she said. “We really do go through a lot and we’re there when other people aren’t. Sometimes it’s not even recognized. I have a coworker who put out a fire in a backyard the other day.”
In addition to a thank you from the Rays, Lontz was also met with gifts and balloons from co-workers and members of Local 702 Logistics, the local courier company contracted by Amazon.
Her company gave her 4 $35 tickets to something called “enchanted christmas”
And you people say big corporations don’t care.
