Amazon abuses usps coming and going.
Breaking up with Amazon would be so much easier if brick and mortar stores weren’t terrible. Went to Staples to buy a monitor but they have just the display models and the actual stock is in the back I guess. Wouldn’t be a problem but sales people are also nowhere to be found. So I left.
Order online for in-store pickup?
Went to Target today for the first time in years. Lots of empty shelves, it was like a mausoleum. My fellow shoppers were…rough around the edges. I was like “oh right, this is why I don’t ever come here”.
But Bobby Canavale was there too.
My Target has had tons of empty shelves since COVID, especially in the grocery section.
Some time back I worked with Walmart on an IT-related project. Let’s just say I don’t see them out innovating Amazon anytime soon.
Targets around here seem pretty normal but I’m in headquarters land so they probably stock stuff better here
I’m a little bufuddled that Amazon thought voice shopping through Alexa was the future especially since Amazon did a lot of research into what kinds of consumer experiences translate well into online shopping vs in person when it was expanding its online footprint. I wonder if there was any research into it or if Bezos just thought it’d be the future
Agreed. I think after they couldn’t find a shopping avenue, they hoped someone would discover some other revenue scheme for such devices.
Home Assistants are fading away from the big tech companies. Going to be the domain of smaller companies, until someone figures out how to make them profitable on a large scale.
It’s kind of weird apple got into it. They thought they might be missing the boat on a new revenue stream. Of course apple charges enough to make money selling them, which isn’t viable when Amazon is selling their devices so cheaply.
Huh. The Targets where I am seem just fine. Pretty popular in suburbia.
My wife has used amazon for everything since I met her. She loved it. She is part of some Amazon thing where she gets items for free as long as she reviews them. I think it was up to 300$ Items.
I mostly ignored it other then getting annoyed having boxes piled up. Noticed in last 3 months or so not many boxes or packages. Asked wife about it and she said amazon sucks and just junk now. Still get lots of packages but mostly target now….
Happy that Amazon isn’t much of a thing in Czech Republic.
I mean there is an office and a fulfillment center in the country but almost nobody shops using it. Not a whole lot of free shipping options unlike America. Most of the stuff you order comes from Germany so there isn’t much in the way of 2 day or 1 day shipping.
There are three Targets roughly equal distance form my house; one is basically always fully stocked while the other two tend to be ravaged (one is a Super Target and I’ve seen busloads of people being dropped off there, I think from Nogales or some other nearby small town). Still any of them is better than setting foot in Wal-mart.
RIP Amazon Smile.
A prison in the Netherlands is nicer than most American offices lol
I think only AWS makes any money for Amazon now. It’s interesting twitch is still not profitable. Not sure that goes on forever.
If Amazon doesn’t make money with almost 50% of e-commerce, that would be pretty surprising.
They do charge a shitton for stupid AWS services.
I thought this has always been the case.
Amazon (AMZN 1.56%) is a technology powerhouse. It was founded in 1994, and it amassed a $1.5 trillion valuation in the 30 years since.
The company originally sold books online, though its catalog has expanded to include an estimated 12 million products. In 2023, Amazon accounted for 37.6% of all e-commerce sales in America, which was light-years ahead of second-place Walmart at 6.3%.
But here’s the thing. Online sales – combined with all of its other businesses except one – accounted for a minority of Amazon’s operating income through the first three quarters of 2023 (ended Sept. 30). In 2022, they contributed no operating income at all.
16% of sales and 74% of profit for AWS
