get a job as a paid campaign canvasser. Tons of walking and you’ll get at least $25 an hour to do it.
the upside of miracle drugs is that you will have better quality of life for the rest of your life.
the downside is that you will live a few years longer.
all jokes aside, i think lasik 15 years ago was safe, but it is even more safe now. technology improved immensely, they no longer need to cut a whole flap, more precisely adjustments. also IOLs are a thing now. i had a similar thought before wisdom teeth surgery. it would have worked if i had gotten it 5-10 years prior, but with more modern imagery, it was basically guaranteed arteries would not be accidentally hit.
7 years is a lot of time, and it was tested before that. The fda overall is pretty damn good at drug surveillance. It’s extremely likely the negative affects of your obesity is far more than whatever downsides.
Btw there are drawbacks… vomiting, constipation, gerd, etc. are all fairly common but get better as your on it
I use that. Last year I used another which was $40 thru insurance. I changed insurance (same company (Anthem C**s) different plan ) and they wont authorize that one only this one and it costs $188. (Anthem Cs).
eta, sorry about the caps, don’t know how i did it and don’t know how to change it, “shrug”
Blood pressure meds may not have medical downsides, but the people I know that take them have other issues like—interfering or preventing taking other medicines, sleep problems, can’t take aspirin or ibuprofen…
Completely depends on which blood pressure medicine you’re taking. Some have very few side effects.
Cholesterol medicine is probably a better example, though. Close to zero side effects for most people.
I never understand people who worry about things like sleep problems. Generally those kinds of problems stop when you stop the medicine. So, if that’s the fear why not try it? If it causes problems, then you stop and you’re back where you started. If you’re lucky maybe you don’t get that specific side-effect.
I don’t think people are suggesting that you would get permanent sleep problems from a few weeks of anything, but that’s a different fear and I’d imagine far less likely.
Medication interactions can sometimes be managed in a similar way. Obviously depends on the drug and why you are taking it.
My wife says its one of the best things shes ever done and wished she did it 15 years sooner
To piggyback off this. In the span of six months since starting my statin, Ive dropped over 100 points of LDL in my cholesterol levels.
Wonder drugs do exist, we are just super skeptical of them because we live in a world where we all know the Monkey’s Paw story. Sometimes the genie just grants a wish without it having some devastating downside.
Hmmm, if I cant take ibuprofein with my BP meds then im a dead man
This board runs fat, middle aged, wealthier and online. It’s not a representative sample.
Yeah, I may have misunderstood the issue with the meds given the initial Simplicitus list and Melkerson’s post. Maybe it’s the Afib meds that screw up the blood pressure meds and causes the insomnia.
Have you been checked for cataracts?
No but the starburst effect has present since immediately after I got LASIK.
Until the illegals find out about it and steal the canvassing jobs,
About the same Feb 2024 - 180 mg/dl Aug 2024 - 100 mg/dl. Statins aren’t without side effects either. I believe achiness and muscle pain are the most common, there’s also a group of people that think statins are the devil. I told a friend that I was prescribed and I think he thought it was basically a death sentence. Not sure what that’s all about but I think there is probably a cohort that thinks most medical interventions are Bad™, for whatever reason.
I’ve been on a statin since I was 60lbs overweight with elevated lipid readings. I’ve been at my healthy weight for 5 years now, and my lipid panels have been normal x5+ years…but when I saw my newish PCP last year he thought I should stay on the statin for a while more.
In fact, when I asked whether I could/should d/c my statin (already at a low dose) or my baby aspirin, he said without hesitation, “I’d rather you stop the aspirin.”
Isn’t statin fear mongering a boomer conspiracy thing? I definitely associate it with like unhinged Facebook posts and chain emails and such. Not sure how it originated.
If I remember correctly, they’re not even sure if the muscle achiness is really caused by the drug. Could be a nocebo effect.
Statins are amazing and in my non-doctor opinion should probably be prescribed earlier and more often. Huge benefits with little downside.
To add another data point, my total cholesterol went down 70% (!!!) within 3 months of taking a min dose statin.
I’m under 40 and otherwise in pretty good health, so the guidelines aren’t clear. Thankfully my doctor agreed that I might as well try starting now since the risks are so small.
Strongly recommend anyone reading who tends to avoid the doctor to get your bloodwork done and check your numbers. Blood pressure and cholesterol medications are two of the most well proven interventions and they’re incredibly low effort / high reward.
