The only reason the party is still controlled by boomers is because those born after them didn’t run for those jobs and didn’t support those that tried. This is not just politics by the way. Amateur sporting clubs, charities, building societies etc. are also struggling to find people to replace the boomers that run them. I agree that in politics the more gen x and millennials allowed boomers to entrench themselves the harder it became to get them out but they let this happen.
This is just not true. USA boomers rigged the game for themselves.
Like Gen-X before them.
It’s undeniable that millennials and especially gen-xers give absolutely zero fucks about doing anything. We’re the “can’t somebody else do it” generations, damn it. Also, work smarter not harder. Also, live laugh love.
No wonder everything we complain about doesn’t change, and is “rigged”. RFKjr is our candidate.
Which part is not true? Do you really want to claim Gen X volunteerd and participated in politics at any decent rates in their 30s and 40s? Because all I remember is organisations struggling hard to get people in those years.
Millennials and younger have tried. They just never get anything done because boomers have a stranglehold on power and have rewritten the rules to exclude new blood.
Millions of people protested the Iraq War. Think of all the Parkland outrage and political movement that followed. Me too was very real. People care and they want to make things better.
But on the political side, it’s just not possible. And on this front it is much more Democrats’ fault than republicans. Refusing to address gerrymandering, court reform and the filibuster ensures, quite purposefully, they will never get anything meaningful done. Note they are quite willing to change the rules to keep any progressive, young candidates from gaining momentum. Quite a contrast.
Citizens United has probably had a significant impact in stifling the voices/efforts of the younger, relatively less wealthy generations vs. Boomers, too.
The George Floyd protests are another good example.
Those finely honed BS detectors realize the game is rigged so why play.
Politicians have figured out the one weird trick to handle protests… just ignore them. You literally don’t have to do anything. Eventually people will get tired and move on. Throw in some light gerrymandering or filibustering to counter whatever momentum the movement caused and problem solved.
Incorrect
They’ll (you’ll?) just keep posting through it.
Well it is a message board
Young people care and are open to change and can do great things. But you never know what will activate them and it’s not a good idea to try to push them toward particular goals. You can model your own values but you have to let them do what they want to do. Have a little faith and hope for the best.
It is what it is
RAIDS blaming the victim is very on brand although it’s obvious you are just here to take shots at people bro.
Harder to ignore protests if you escalate and create more chaos and disorder. How can protest be used to wreck the economy?
The better question is how to do all that without turning the public against the protesters.
Doesn’t matter if you can irreparably break the economic and political system so that we have do something new.
