Betting on Politics: Predictit is NOT Dead

I maxed it before the election, then sold it all at like 94 or 95 and moved it into something better. I have one share in case something settles and I can get back in.

One of my favorite markets has to be this one,

Not because it’s a good value, there’s obviously a lot of other markets better (like the straight up Biden ones). But it’s funny because it’s always priced significantly worse than the Biden/Trump markets, and the reason is because there is a decent amount of ‘Yes’ buyers who are buying because they are betting on Trump to win the pop vote + EC (despite their being insanely better value bets for Trump elsewhere, if you were someone who was looking to bet on Trump)

Arrrrrrrrgh why didn’t I think of that? Damn it. I pumped over 13K into PI on an old Discover card.

Beat: I didn’t sell it when it was .94 and anticipate this.
Brag: Double maxed at average of .55 in the overnight hours 11/3 into 11/4.
Variance: Could take a while to settle, I guess.

What do these #s mean on Betfair? Does this mean $36,153 has been bet on Biden at 1.09, and $160 has been bet on Trump at 9.6? So basically no one is betting on Trump @ Betfair?

No the numbers are offers. It’s normal for money to be offered back/lay on the fave rather than most of the offers to be on the underdog. Just what people tend to do. Betfair is an exchange so the amounts of money on each side are just determined by the prices matched.

Got my payout today. About $400 Aus. Thanks guys for the tips and the ride. (also $100 matched first deposit bonus - woo hoo!).

Are new votes in?

Why does PI cap all their markets?

So they can get US players is the short answer I think.

The longer answer is them dancing around some delicate laws about online gambling that helps them avoid prosecution.

The thing I’ve been trying to work around now is not depositing too much money such that i miss good prices and then I have just wasted cash due to the withdrawal fees. I wish I could just buy shares straight from bank account or something. I think the ideal approach is to have >$850 cash so that you can put in fliers to max out whatever markets you want, and then if you fill one you deposit another grand. Otherwise you can be left with a lot of cash and only 95c markets to enter.

Provider has received a no-action-letter from the Division of Market Oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Without explicitly asserting jurisdiction over Provider or any of its submarkets, this letter, dated October 29, 2014, extended no-action relief to Provider’s Political and Economic Indicator Markets (the latter limited to students, faculty and staff of participating universities). The letters are available at the CFTC website as part of their Freedom of Information Act documents. Pursuant to this letter, there is “a limit of 5000 total traders in any particular contract”, and “a limit on investment by any single participant in any particular contract [of] $850”.
