Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

I have good credit and no recent hard pulls. Not sure where that leaves me.

Got a hard pull day before the advance cleared FWIW. If they haven’t pulled your credit they probably haven’t got to you yet maybe.

There is Twitter, and then there is the Q-level mecca of all things celebrity gossip known as Crazy Days and Nights, where Ellen is a frequent topic: @Riverman @Habsfan09

Went to the site and the first one is apparently about Tom and Katie but that made
me think what are they going to do with all these films that should be coming out. Do they wait until quarantine is over? Do people even want to go to the cinema without a vaccine? I would pay if they made them available online, James Bond, the new Topgun and whatever else was worth watching.

I don’t get why Shake Shack and Ruth Chris took the money. They had to know it would be a PR disaster. And just lol at allowing publicly traded companies to access the small business bailout.

How much does the PR really hurt either of them tho? Is your median Shake Shack buyer a socially conscious consumer?

Following up on my earlier post where my boss offered me half my hourly rate to work double the hours doing grunt work, I’ve found multiple sources that say this would result in some of the loan not being forgiven because my wages would not be 75% of before (hourly rate, not just total wages, evidently matters). It’s all very confusing but I think that’s correct. It’s pretty absurd if he can halve my rate and be like lol just work double hours.

Working for deplorables is just the worst. The guy doesn’t really have anything for us to do. He doesn’t even need this loan. He’s going to cheat it in every possible way. He could literally pay us the money for doing nothing, engender a bunch of Goodwill, or at the very least pay us our full teaching rates for doing grunt work. Instead he is trying to figure out how to get double hours from us because he just can’t fathom overpaying us for low level work.

The kicker is that he has lamented in conversations with two different people that he’s not sure he can get enough payroll out to meet the 75% requirement. THE DUDE CAN LITERALLY HAND US MONEY TO GET THERE.

According to documents from the California EDD, an offer to work for 20% less is justifiable reason to consider the job offer unsuitable and I can reject it without jeopardizing my job. But I really, really like this job and there are no parallel competitors.

I would reiterate one of my strongest life beliefs: DO NOT WORK FOR ASSHOLES. Life is just way too hard to begin with, it will destroy your quality of life. Don’t do it, period.

Some films that hit theatres just before lockdowns started or were scheduled to be released just afterwards have been released for pay per view. I think the price for most of them was $19.99. I imagine the studios will do a lot of number crunching on those early Guinea pigs to see if they want to do that with some of their other films or wait for theaters to reopen, but my guess is that for the really big movies they will try to hold off and do a theatrical release. The new James Bond, for example, has already announced a delayed release date (now scheduled for November), and Marvel laid out a whole new schedule for the MCU. Obviously, as you pointed out, if it becomes clear that noone is going to go to a crowded theater with a bunch of strangers while munching on some popcorn, the studios may just pivot and end up putting out everything on VOD.

And if you like indie films, a few new websites have popped up that allow you to pay to stream the film and share part of the “ticket price” with one of the small theaters that was originally scheduled to show the film. https://www.thewrap.com/all-the-indie-cinema-streaming-options-available-while-art-houses-are-closed/

Well, my check is scheduled to be mailed on April 24. It’s possible not all of my gambling activity made it onto my tax forms, so I may be getting it earlier than one might expect.

How do you know this?

That IRS website where you can check the status of your check.

Damn still getting the same error as a lot of others.

If they are processing people in order based on AGI…some of you are going to have a long wait.

When this all started the theater owners got super pissed about studios releasing some new movies straight to VOD.

Here’s the Ellen thread I mentioned. She’s just a straight-up sociopath.

Oh hey, my payment status still isn’t available. I’ll just keep waiting on that $3,400, I guess.

Also, it’s funny - I’m self-employed, but don’t make much money. My wife brings home the bacon. I’d actually be better off getting unemployment plus the $600 bonus. I haven’t lost any work, though, so I doubt I could apply for it. Plus, it wouldn’t be ethical.

My business received $10K from the EIDL program today. That alone doesn’t solve much, but I’ll sure take it, and it makes me feel like all the time I’ve spent on this wasn’t a total waste. Hoping this will be followed by a larger loan offer.

On the PPP front, I now have applications and documentation filed with Chase, PayPal, and Lendio. Once the program gets more money I’m hoping one of them comes through.
